Long/Short forms of swords , have they ben axed ?

We could just wait and see? I'd bet money on "sword" being the title for all swords, short or long will just be the model. Like y'know, this Silver Sword is longer then the Imperial Sword, therefor its a "long sword", just not by name.

Yeah , I couldn't have said it better myself .

Theres no solid evidence they have been merged. To end this thread as a single word answer to your question, Maybe.

They still have different attributes. Short = less damage and more speed. Long = less speed and more damage. Only the labels are gone.

We need to take into account that we have a Crafting System in this game....which changes things.

I think Swords can now vary from Size and Length and Weight, depending on the Weaponsmith that forged it.
And depending on the materials you used to create it.

Now a Standard Issued Imperial Sword is probably going to stay the same general size, weight, shape and length because
thats the way they are being massly produced for the Military.

That being taken into consideration, I am not going to make any further conclusions untill i see the crafting system.

My thoughts also.

Also , if you are keen enough to notice that both Steel and Imperial swords have the same damage , but the imperial sword costs much less , that could very well be because the imperial sword has much less reach than the steel sword which suggests variation in between swords but not in the traditional Long/Short types .

I think you might be going a little too deep.

The Imperial Sword is probably just made with better materials.

I've just confirmed ... the sword in the picture is an "Iron Sword" , and the sword in the other one is a "Glass Sword" .
There is no need for confirmation , I can sadly guarantee to you that Short/Long sword variations have been completely removed

Thats not confirmation yet those are pictures. It still says that carrots are weightless but that has been said to be changing by release. So its not set in stone

What do materiels have to do with anything ?! I think you are the one that might be going a little to deep , this is an elder scrolls game and so like all previous ones weapon pricing is done according to the actual weapon stats , same goes for armor .
and since they were completely identical in the visible stats , that means they had to differ in hidden ones , such as reach ( and seeing how the imperial sword is shorter than the steel sword this is very possible), which you can modify in the construction set in oblivion and presumably in the creation kit for skyrim .
