It's a long wait until November 2012

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:19 am

Twenty-two months is a long time to wait for this game. I'm talking, of course, about the GOTY edition of Skyrim that will have all the DLC on the disc. The GOTY versions of Bethesda games usually come out about a year later.

Why wait until then? Because I hate paying for DRM (digital restrictions management), and I know that Bethesda is going to announce a bunch of DLC soon after the game's release, and I hate DLC. I hate the fact that I can't resell it when I'm done with it. So I'll just have to wait until November 2012 to play Skyrim.

I don't really see that as a valid reason to wait to play the game. I'm confused about your motivations. Is your only reason because you can't resell the DLC?

GOTY version for PC likely will not be resellable after playing due to Steamworks DRM integration.

If you're on console, you might be okay. Unless they change the DRM for the consoles in the next eighteen months or so.

It is actually very valid. Pay X amount for the game, then Y+R+E+G amounts for DLC.
Or wait and just pay X amount for the game and ALL DLC.

In my personal opinion, I'd put my money on the fact that, once the game releases and this fellow hears about how everyone else is having a blast with it, DLC be damned, he'll end up going out to buy it. haha

To be fair though, there's an excellent chance that Skyrim will be released in 2012 (hopefully not as late as November, 2012 though).

Good luck with that, I see no reason to make myself wait 2 years just so I can play the GOTY version with all DLCs. Or to wait because of a simple DRM system (Which is not announced, but I think it will be Steamworks.). Or complaining about the most stupid thing I've heard today, wanting to re-sell a DLC...

Oh, also! If there is indeed a DRM system don't expect it to be pulled out, unless it's something like Ubisoft's DRM.

You complain a lot about small things. Deal with it, that's life!

Don't really know too many who are. I'm the type to buy a game and then own/still have it.

There is nothing wrong with waiting for something you want so you can get a better deal. I to do that with some things. Like new technology in TV's or cars. I await for the price to drop on many things really. But I am willing to pay the extra to play my games as soon as I can get them. I won't buy day old bread either or give up my more expensive choice in coffee. We all have to prioritize according to our individual hierarchy of desires.

Still, if you're going to find yourself having a hard time waiting, just buy they game in 2011 and svck it up and buy the DLC when it comes out? I mean 10-20 dollars isn't that much. Plus, think, Skyrim is going to be a huge game, by the time the DLCs come out you'll probably have played a total of 1/100 of the entire thing.

That is a very optimistic view you have.
I 100% Oblivion before DLC was even announced.

TES games should never be re-sold, such acts are blasphemy!

I plan to mod for Fallout 3 before and after Skyrim comes out, and once Skyhaven is done I may try my hand at Skyrim modding - can't wait.

Modding or Death.

We don't know for certain how the DRM will be handled in Skyrim. If it's reasonable to me (no steam required for the disc version) I'll buy or even pre-order the collector's edition & when the GOTY is released I'll get that as well.

If Steam is required, IF I get the game it will be the GOTY (when all the official patching should be done) just like I'm doing with New Vegas ATM.

Yes, steam is this much a hassle for some of us.
