Longest living individual?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 8:43 pm

What you learn here will last you a lifetime: Several if you're talented.
This seemingly harmless quote lead me to the question I'm addressing in the topic; how long is the longest a TES mortal lived? I don't want to include people who did so by becoming undead (eg. Mannimarco, vampires, etc.) people who became gods (eg. Talos, the Tribunal, etc.) or people who are not mortal in the same sense Man and Mer are (eg. Dragons). Of course due to the very nature of the above quote, magic induced longevity is fine as long as the practitioner is still very much alive.

Please don't let this become a "How long does x race live" thread k thx?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Divayth_Fyr This crazy wizard is at least 4000 years old (and nuts).

If you want to count the dwemer in, then:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Yagrum_Bagarn age unknown, probably way older than Divayth Fyr.

I think Queen Barenziah is still alive and kicking, and she was born at around the closing of the Second Era. She was a lover of Tiber Septim for a while. That might give you an idea.

Divayth Fyr, at 4000+ years, is the oldest living mortal we know of but he claims there may be even older ones living on Summerset Isle.

Dyus of Mytheria. Dude was old enough to have served Jyggalag before he became Sheo.

Wasn't that just during the previous grey march which happens like every 1000 years or something? Hate to quote the wiki but there is this. Either the end of an age or every 1000 years. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Greymarch Either way that is still younger than Divayth Fyr

His lines seem to imply that he was around before Jyg became Sheo.

I think SL is right; the story of the Greymarch isn't of Jyg rebuilding his realm and collapsing back into Sheo, it's of destroying the realm he built as the Mad God, and then collapsing back into Sheo. Dyus has ostensibly been stuck in the ruined library since the Dawn Era.. or perhaps an entirely different Kalpa? Terrifying thought. That said, I classify Dyus as with Haskill, which is to say that while they may look 'human,' I highly doubt they're anything close to it. If we're sticking to Mundus-bound-mortals, then, of the figures we know, it's Divayth.

I want to know how Divayth has lived for so long. That guy was probably even born as a Chimer. Even though he's a Telvanni wizard, from what I've read/seen/heard he isn't a lich or lengthened his lifespan or anything like that.

Maybe it has something to do with his understanding of Corprus. Nevermind. Corprus has only been around the last 400 or so years. I don't know how he does it.

Edit: Come to think of it, I wonder how Yagrum stayed alive for the thousands of years that Corprus wasn't around.

Corprus was around for thousands of years I'm pretty sure. It's just that only recently the Tribunal have been losing their powers since Dagoth Ur stole the Tools of Kagrenac.

According to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Dagoth_Ur%27s_Plans, he awakened near the end of the Second Era.

I could swear it's mentioned somewhere that the Telvanni use some form of necromancy, but I can't recall where. I'll try to find a source later.

From what Yagrum says it sounds like he was stricken with Corprus a short while after returning. So I guess that he spent a lot of time in the Outer Realms.

Well, isn't time only linear on Nirn?
Yagrum could be a thousand years old or simply the age he was when he left if he spent time in the outer-realms.

Or at least thats how I understand it.

Necromancy can expand ones life without forcing them into lichdom, its actually how the altmer can live pass 1000 years.

In the game, the NPCs can use magic in ways the players can't even dream of. Combinations of Necromancy and even Restoration magics could be used to let someone persist for millenia. And have.
