Looking Ahead

When Bethesda first put out DLC for Oblivion it was all very minor. Several new strongholds (freely given with little-to-no background or quest), spell tomes, horse armour, and generally were not well recieved.

Now, I bought all that dlc. I enjoyed it all, and, to be fair, it was decently made. But then, Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles came out, and it changed how I saw DLC. Sheogorath's Realm was nearly as large as Cyrodiil was in the first place!

And when Bethesda put out Fallout 3, the DLC was all quite impressive. Large, explorable environments, quests, items, enemies.

Now, this has me thinking.

I know it's a long shot... but please tell me I'm not the only one hoping that the DLC for Skyrim even blows Shivering Isles outta the water. I'm talking Bethesda adding in, bit by bit, all the other countries.

"Return to Cyrodiil", "Reclaiming Morrowind", "Journey to Elswyr".

I have a foolish hope of seeing something like this happen. I don't think it's likely, I do believe that whatever Bethesda gives us will be surprising, enjoyable, and memorable all at once.

But I would love to travel across the entire Empire in a single game again.

What are your hopes and dreams for Skyrim's DLC?

They did say they would make more expansion-like DLC.

As long as it's a big expansion, similar in size to the Shivering Isles I will be happy.

Another trip to a daedric realm or a trip into High Rock or Atmora.

Todd even hinted that he wanted to remake the city of Daggerfall........ so watch this space

Yeah, I was pleased to hear that they'd be making their DLC "closer to an expansion pack feel."

I'd like to see DLC that would provide some closure or expand upon events/storylines from the game. I can't tell you how angry I was that Kvatch was still a burning wreck months after I ended the Oblivion crisis.

Not that, because those would be some damn small provinces. Also, I don't want to retread old ground. I saw Morrowind in all its splendor almost ten years ago. I don't want to go to a 1GB rendition of Elsweyr. That province deserves its own game. What I hope to see are more things like Broken Steel, which added a lot to the original game world in addition to providing new locales, or Lookout Point, which added a decent-sized chunk of land with its own enemies, quests, etc. Obviously on a bigger scale, but still in that vein.

I do find it ironic that now Bethesda is one of the companies that is approaching DLC properly, by having it be something that adds to the game, when years ago everyone was making fun of them for the horse armor thing and now those sorts of microtransactions are the norm.
