Looking for a BSA to test with

Post » Tue May 18, 2010 11:54 pm

Some background on this: NifSkope has for a long time incorporated BSA support which allows loading of textures and meshes directly from a BSA file. However, updating the underlying Qt framework to version 4.6 has broken the BSA code; while I have Morrowind BSAs (and the ability to create them) to test with, I don't have Oblivion (or any BSAs for it).

Can someone provide me with either a selfmade Oblivion BSA, or a utility with which to create them? Everything I've found so far (TES4Files, BSACommander) seems to require a working Oblivion install in order to function. I'm looking for something with multiple folder names, and multiple files in each folder.

The one in my Feldscar mod should do the trick, has several folders each with several files in them.

Have you tried using OBMM to build BSAs?

When I tried to create OMODs for my mods on my netbook OBMM refused to run without the game installed.
I even tried tricking its checks by providing empty files with the names it was searching for, but it didn't help.

I'd be tempted to send you mine, but unfortunately the custom BSA doesn't seem to get registered properly by the game for some members of my team. Unfortunately it works for me, so it's hard to troubleshoot.

Thanks, downloading it now :)

Send away - I'll have a look at it and see if I can see anything obviously wrong. What did you create it with?

Created it with BSA commander. Can't put the link here since it's a work in progress and has recently moved back out of the public spotlight so that more focused work can be done.

@Vagrant0: hrm, ok. The only suggestion I have is to give http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes4Mod:BSA_File_Format a good read, then get stuck into it with QSkope (part of PyFFI but requires PyQt4) and/or a hex editor.

@Arthmoor: Excellent, it proved that the existing code works (and will be helpful for future testing) :)
