Looking for a good fighting game

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 9:24 pm

I've got this urge to play a good fighting game, the thing is I have no idea which ones are any good. The new Mortal Kombat looks fun, but I'm not sure about it.

Also I already own SoulCalibur IV, and I think it's a bit too slow paced for me. I'd really like to play something fast paced.

Thanks.

Super Street Fighter IV is probably one of the very best right now.

There is

  • Marvel Vs Capcom 3

  • Super Street Fighter 4

  • Tekken 6

  • Dead or Alive 4.

Could be good ones! They all got good ratings, and I've head good things about all of them.

Tekken is a good choice, or the new Mortal Kombat.

I don't know about Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but the Vs. series has always been fairly frantic. MvC2 on XBLA and of course the aforementioned MvC3.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (or Continuum Shift, but I haven't played it).

Oh yeah, I forgot those had 360 versions. Also good. I'd recommend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt69ZgRilKU&feature=related as well. Dear god it's fast though. Jumping and zooming around, and little girls beating the ever living crap out of you.

"What...what are you gonna do? What. I beat you in the first round. What. Alright, round 2 let's g-OH MY GOD WHY HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE I CAN'T EVEN MOVE." :P

I suggest MvC3. It's very good and fun.

I've heard Tekken 6 is alright, but never actually played it. Same for SSF4.

Personally, I'm a Soul Calibur fan all the way.

If you like story mode and a fast pace, I find the new Mortal Kombat to be the best combo in latest years.

Marvel vs Capcom 3, SSFIV, and the new MK are all good games, though each one is designed for slightly different tastes in fighting games.

So you don't really have it so, SSFIV is an entirely different game on console due to the wider range of controls and increased precision, plus the arcade edition DLC is upcoming which will change the game's dynamics a fair bit.

I don't have time to type out a long post right now, like I normally would but I would suggest you think about what kind of type of fighting game you want. Some have sharp learning curves, some are more reflex based, while others require meta-game knowledge and good combo learning skills. Would also suggest you get at least a fightpad, if not a cheap stick if you intend to take fighting games beyond casual play at all.

Fight Night: Champions, Super Street Fighter 4, or Marvel vs Capcom 3. All of these games have been approved by me, He11FX, so you know they must be good.

Super Street Fighter 4 would be my pick. The new Mortal Kombat looks worth a look as well but I haven't played it yet myself.

Out of the three I've played-
  • Tekken-Both a defensive and offensive type of game. It helps to really know your combos.
  • SSFIV- More of a defensive game. Most of it is finding a window to inteereupt and punish attacks.
  • MvC3-Offensive. Hectic and fast paced. Basic combos are easy.

Get a ps2, then get Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus. Either that or Tekken 6.
