Looking for an ini setting or console command

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:56 pm

My char tries to retrieve missed arrows that hit the ground. They fade away after a short time, sometimes before she can get to them (especially) if she has to kill something first. I like that they fade away, I would just like to increase the time before they do so to perhaps a minute or so. I would prefer to use the ini or a console command to try and do this instead of a mod if that is possible. I don't run Wrye Bash (which I understand has this as one of its many complex features). Thanks for any help!

WB does it by tweaking game settings, as far as i know they can only be changed trough the construction set, not trough ini or console. The arrow lasting time setting is fArrowAgeMax, and it's 90 (seconds) by default.

It is very simple to make a plugin that changes that, just open the CS, load Oblivion.esm, select the "Gameplay" top bar item, select settings, find fArrowAgeMax, set it's value to what you want, and save.

The only way to do this is with the bashed patch tweak or with a mod. That is unless you know how to use the CS (which in the end is still a mod). It would be worth your while to learn how to use wrye bash though. There's a few more useful tricks in that bashed patch that Buffy would enjoy. :)

Gamesettings can be changed in game with the SetGS command. Syntax is identical to http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Con_SetGameSetting. IIRC, the changes aren't saved from one session to the next, though.

Thank you so much, wise and kind friends! That is exactly the kind of info I was looking for, albeit not exactly what I had hoped for. Not a big problem at all; it confirmed this is not a simple ini tweak. Perhaps next summer, I will upgrade to a new PC. That might be a good time to attempt to muster the courage for this little OBMM user to tangle with and try to sort out WB. :o

Thank you again! :foodndrink:

Acadian, just remember that you don't need to use every feature of Bash. That said, the most popular feature is almost certainly the bashed patch with it's many, many game setting tweaks. Fortunately, that feature is very easy to use, so I think you'll do fine if you try it.
