Looking for a new Android mobile phone

What matters is voltage and apms. So long as the output of the charger matches for volts and amps, and the charger fits, it doesn't matter what charger you use.

Anyhoo, congrats on getting a Nexus 4. Make sure to upgrade it to 4.3 ASAP. I hear it fixes 4.2's bluetooth problems and speeds up the phone in general through various optimizations and TRIM.

Why random chargers can kill your phone is because of poor voltage controls. http://www.righto.com/2012/10/a-dozen-usb-chargers-in-lab-apple-is.html

spikes, noise, voltage sag, regulation (all of which relate to voltage) are what can kill your phone.

The big problem with 4.2 as DEFRON said is the broken bluetooth. I haven't upgraded to 4.3 yet as I'm on a custom ROM and need to flash back to a stock 4.2 image. Or maybe I could just flash 4.3 directly?

Funny, I'm getting a Nexus 4 in a week too.

1. Yes. It comes with a SIM ejection tool

3. I'm considering this one, but it depends what you want.

Like I said I'm getting one but don't have it so I can't really speak more about the case than that is the one I intend to grab.

I'm waiting for CyanogenMod 10.2, which will be based on Android 4.3.

Thanks for the links guys. I read through that charger page (got lost when it came to those graphs), and what I took from it was the importance of authentic chargers, and that the voltage and amps should match if you're using another brand.

I wonder what the leeway is e.g. +/- 0.1v and no damage is done, for example.

I still don't know why connecting to a laptop (I.e using the usb cable only) can be damaging to the battery, and if you can use different usb cables if you're charging this way. At work I take one random usb cable and I connect it to my laptop to charge my mobile.

I'm running 10.1.2 which is pretty good. Morpheus added HALO to one of his most recent updates but didn't include it in the automatic update program built in. I downloaded it but was afraid to run it so ended up deleting it. I'm not sure why I didn't give it a try, from everything I had read on XDA everyone was enjoying it. I think it was more of the "dirty flash" he was recommending and I decided to wait until it was out of "beta" and included with a stable build.

I went with the S2 myself, even though the S3 and S4 were out. For what I needed, it served me well, and the price was over $200 cheaper.

It's hard to recommend a product to you without knowing what you intend to use it for (since the "phone" part of it isn't useful anymore ;)).

The Nexus 7 is being touted as good, and its price point isn't as high. You may want to check it out.

I will say this, though: stay away from Windows based phones. Those who have them around me don't feel they're as good as the Android phones.

And I will never recommend a product that rhymes with "crapple". I hate that company.

Aye, the Nexus 7 is amazing for it's price. Now there is an updated Nexus 7 with ALOT more processing power and an extra GB of RAM for only $25.00 more than the original $200.00 Nexus 7. Makes me wish I waited until now to buy a Nexus 7.

"crapple"? So what, you won't buy Scrapple. :P It's delicious I can assure you.

It svcks that they also added a usable camera, well a back camera...but it doesn't matter now since I upgraded my phone.

I had an Android X2 which basically crapped out towards the end, I also bought a Nexus 7 (I knew it didn't have a camera, but it would have been nice). Then a couple months ago I upgraded my X2 to a Galaxy S4.

The S4 has a 13 megapixel camera while the new Nexus 7 has a 5 megapixel camera, so it doesn't matter if it had the camera as I wouldn't use it.

I doubt the rear-facing camera in the new Nexus 7 is comparable to those in high-end smartphones. That said, don't look at megapixels. To be honest, there's no point in taking 13 megapixel pictures using the camera in a phone. Even really good smartphone cameras (like the one in the Nokia Lumia) are barely able to produce images that warrant 13 megapixels worth of data.

Just take a look at the world of cameras. There are a slew of budget 14+ megapixel cameras out there that can't come anywhere close to the image quality that a lot of 8 megapixel cameras with good image sensors and lenses can produce. Your typical smartphone camera can't take pictures as good as those budget cameras. Megapixels are just marketing if the camera itself doesn't take good pictures. You have to look at the pictures produced by the device to judge the quality of its camera. The number of megapixels tells you how much data is being produced by the image sensor and the image processing software in the camera, but it doesn't tell you anything about whether or not the picture actually looks good. If the camera doesn't produce good images then more megapixels just means bigger crappy pictures.

It's cheaper to make a digital camera with "more megapixels" than it is to put good image sensors, lenses, etc. in them, so there are a ton of high-megapixel cameras on the market with image sensors and lenses that aren't capable of filling all those megapixels with pretty.

Regardless the camera on the S4 is noticeably better than the X2.

Plus stating the megapixels probably gave you a better idea of what they do instead of just saying "the camera" :)

I'm not an iPhone owner, but I have to admit the camera on it is superb. It can capture beautifully detailed images even when driving 80 mph.
