Looking Into D&D

I thought I'd browse the Wizards of the Coast website and see what they had out for 5.0 PC stuff. They do have a cool virtual tabletop program called http://dnd.wizards.com/products/digital-games/pcmac/fantasy-grounds-virtual-table, but it is 3.5 and has a 4.0 "pack" that can be purchased.

So i poke about a bit more and find the http://dnd.wizards.com/products/tabletop-games/rpg-products/original-dungeons-dragons-rpg listed. you know, Men & Magic, Monsters & Treasure,Underworld & Wilderness Adventures, and the Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldritch Wizardry, and Gods, Demi-Gods, and Heroes booklets. I have Blackmoor and Greyhwak, but none of the others. I open the page and see what they have. It is a reprinting packaged nicely for $150.00. $150.00?!? That is a bit much for my nostalgia

How much is your nostalgia worth? :D

Dnd books are only increasing in prices over the years haha.

I got probably over a 1000 dollars in dnd books accumulated over the years, when stacked they make a pile about 3feet tall.

Anyway, I found a solution is that I use a laptop to dm and I got links to tons of srd and references to skills and feats and all that which are in the books I don't have. I can look up rules or items and monsters on the fly without needing the physical books.

Yea, the last few times I played (about 5 or so tears ago), we used a laptop for the "paperwork" but still rolled die and moved on maps on the table :)

Id actually consider that a pretty good deal considering if you shop around the 3 new 5e books will run you about 80$ on Amazon or even more if you buy them from a local store. 150$ sounds great for those who prefer the OG D&D.

Yeah everyone loves using real dice, and I got a badass white board with a grid pattern we carved into the board, I can draw and erase maps on the fly. I just use the laptop for most of my dm resouces.

I guess the difference for me is "usability." Spending $50-75 for the latest edition is easier for me "justify" then $150 for something that will sit on my shelf, never used

I like the whiteboard idea! We should have thought of that :)
