Looks Like We Cannot Equip Shield To Right Hand...

Post » Mon Aug 08, 2011 5:59 pm

Notice when Todd is cycling through items in the inventory (QuakeCon demo) how it has LT/ RT under weapons, so you can equip to either hand. When he had the shield highlighted it didn't have that option. Only A to equip. Looks like we can't have shield in right hand and sword in left. Shield will auto equip to left hand. Doesn't bother me at all, but I've seen a lot of people ask about this so I just wanted to point that out.

Yeah it's a minor annoyance, not everyone is right-handed afterall.

I wonder if we can equip a one hander or spell to our left hand only, and/or a spell to our right hand and a one hander to our left hand...

It has been confirmed that we can't dual wield shields a while ago, but it doesn't really matter in which hand you equip it.

That shouldn't be a problem, because weapons and spells have the LT/RT equip options. We should just be able to highlight a sword/spell and press LT to equip it to our left hand.

@Honey This isn't about dual wielding shields. Some people wanted a sword/shield combo, but sword in left hand and shield in right. Looks like this isn't possible.

@d4rk The way the UI is setup it looks as if that playstyle should be possible with weapon in left and spell in right.

Maybe you can equip a sword in your left hand and a ward spell in your right hand. Pretty much accomplishes the same thing... Personally I don't care whether my character can be left-handed so it doesn't bother me.

What if you equip a sword to your left, then equip a shield, will it shift the sword over?

Maybe I'm wrong but I think the main complaint here is, if your left handed and your persona's are left handed, oops no can't. Not the best news for people that enjoy the RP in an RPG.

Most probably. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Very good question, but from what I've gathered it looks like that would have to be the case.

Yeah this maybe the case. Sheild doesn't have l/r next to it because you can't duel weild them but if your swords in your left hand when you select a sheild, itshould jump to your free side not swap the sword, I hope so anyways it seems like little game work to let ppl be left handed, not that I am but it's hardly a small number of the populase and would add diversity to enemys.

95% of people are stupid, 5% are not. So should we get used to stupid pointless comments like that?

Actually, about 10% of the world's population is left-handed. Though I do agree with you. While I would like the option to be left handed in a game, I am far more used to a game being set up right-handed, and being left handed in a game would probably throw me off.

I better get too choose which hand holds the shield.

Don't see why not.

Being Left-Handed doesn't make me biased. :shifty:

I'm not doubting you, but can you really see that? All I can make out on my comp is an arrow showing up when somethings equiped.

I'd rather have that Easterling armor on your icon.
Oh and choosing which arm the shield goes into.
An Easterling shield.

Huge disappointment if its true.

I made a thread a long time ago called Lefties Unite!

I thought it was all settled. If not i hope some modder gets it into the game this time.

This...actually makes no sense. Valid topic for once. Assigning one shield to the right or left hand /=/ Dual shield wielding.

I mean it really beats my head why. It's not as if the shields have been especially designed for the left hand. The base shield models have no special grip or anything.

Being left handed I was going to have a shield on my left hand anyways. But why shields can't be assigned to either is strange.

Nothing to throw a fit over but it's an interesting bit really.

That's been the story of my life.

I for one would like to be able to equip a shield in my right hand and a sword in my left, just the same as I want to be able to use a bow and arrow left handed...but what do I know, I'm just a stinkin' southpaw (AKA wrong handed)

It matters if you cannot wield a shield on the right, possibly a gamebreaker in fact.

The left mouse button does the left hand action. The right mouse button does the right hand action. It is a well established convention that the left mouse click is the "trigger" button. In oblivion, left click means attack, right click means block.

To break from user expectation and decades of habit would be a colossus mistake, unless they have a switch left hand / right hand option.
