I found the AI in Oblivion to be somewhat oblivious

Hopefully the AI in Skyrim will skyrocket above the stupidity that was Oblivion's AI

Though that stupidity that was Oblivion was top of the line AI in any game, damn the limitations of technology at the time. Plus, the stealth blindness of NPCs and the ESP of guards could've been side effects of having to axe the full version of radiant AI from Oblivion.

Since when did TES games have Good AI? atleast give this a chance new tech, and the game isnt done the AI isnt set in stone so there is room for improvement, IF it needs improvement, I take whatever Game review sites detail with a grain of salt unless a beth official comments in that interview.

But in another interview, she said "I know I heard someone" and she was looking for the person and she found them but it was too late and she got shot down. Here is the http://www.vg247.com/2011/04/18/dragonborn-again-bethesda-shows-skyrim-in-utah/

There was another one that specifically talked about the shooting down one of them and the other noticing, give me a sec to find it also.

:goobjob: Good find old chap!

The devos wouldn't troll us in such a way. I am sure they'd improved on on the AI. Maybe this was just the perspective of how the dude that played it saw.

alert from dead comrades should get it's own dialogue, such as 'how? how could this have happened?'

I would trust previews more from people who sat in the front row during the presentation, such as gametrailers. Remember, there were over 100 people in the room.

I'm not surprised. Not at all.

If Bethesda is horrible at one thing - it's AI. It was also animation but at least they seem to have fixed that.

I'm sure gamestop was probably in front as well. Just waiting for the release tomorrow from gametrailers.

You'll eat your words when the game comes out and the AI is just as bad as Oblivion or only slightly improved.

Does "pre-alpha" mean nothing to you? They are still working on adding the main features to the game. They haven't gotten to the bug-squashing phase yet.

Woah, i think they got a unique pic, one i haven't seen yet anyway. It's the dragon born sporting the hand and a half grip on his one handed sword.

Or maybe they become aware of your presese and go, "holy crap, someones here!" then become even more alerted and look for you.

I noticed a confirmation of no seasons, though weather does change, and 5 unique "big" cities plus a dozen or so smaller towns (curse that magazine that said 20+!).

It's tough to judge as we don't know how close the two were standing, nor how dark it was.

On the one hand, it's good that NPCs react to sounds, going on alert if a sneaking PC fires an arrow nearby.

On the other hand, if a character dies right in front of another, that should elicit a stronger reaction. However, your location should still be unknown if you fired from a good hiding spot. The enemy should not telepathically know where you are.

That's my fear over this - that complaining over the shortcoming will result in Beth over-compensating and ruining stealth by making NPCs *too* smart. Yes, a bandit should be alarmed if his partner is sniped right in front of him, but he shouldn't draw his sword and charge straight at you if you're hidden.

Edit: This is why NPCs need the 3rd state of awareness described in my sig. There should be a state between curious and fully aware of the player.

I agree. I think it's kind of strange there is 2 phases instead of 3.

While his friend lies dead on his feet... Oblivion anyone..

Haha that is why I added the 'again' part.

Not phased by hearing that though, as others said there is time to improve on things that aren't quite right yet and I'm sure the AI really is better than Oblivion's anyways.
