Looting bodies

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 5:30 am

Reloaded Oblivion yesterday and I noticed that when looting bodies weapons were not included and you would have to find them. In FO3 and FO3 NV, even if the weapon has flung away from the dead NPC, lotting the body with have the weapon on their person which I find hany although less realistic. I hope they keep this new trend up. I know it is a very minor point.

Yes I agree they should also add animations instead of just a magical menu poping up.

There are a variety of small changes made from Oblivion to Fallout (like what you mentioned, and keyboard shortcuts to browse inventories quicker, etc.) that I sincerely hope they keep. It just makes life easier.

If not? There's always mods...

I guess I'd have it like Fallout but I'll choose either choice.

Its likely any small changes like this will find their way into Skyrim. I sorta liked the way looting was in Oblivion better though... was more realistic.

It should be noted however that the looting change for Fallout might have been due to the fact you could disintegrate people, and otherwise would not be able to loot their weapons. If that is in fact why you could loot weapons strait from the bodies of people in Fallout, then there is a chance the change might not find its way into Skyrim. However, I think it was simply that people struggled to find weapons in Oblivion at times.

The number of dropped weapons that I simply couldn't find in Oblivion made me :banghead: I was constantly toggling grass off and on, and sometimes stuff just dropped through the ground.

I much preferred the FO3/FONV style where if you loot an enemy you will automatically pick up the weapon that was flung out of their hands when you shot their head off. I want to enjoy the game, not play hide and seek with dropped weapons. I don't want that kind of realism thank you.

Oblivion style.
I don't want the weapon that I disarmed magically appear on their body again. More realistic.

When climbing the blood spires in the oblivion gates and you kill a baddie only to watch that big Daedric claymore go sliding down the ramp to the bottom of the spire?
Yes please, attach the weapons to the body.
It's amazing, this is such a minor point yet so important. Beyond the crazy graphics or fancy new combat - just something to make the game less annoying.

I forgeot about the grass in Obivion. Searching through grass was annoying but realistic. And the spires with items falling off. Sometimes I didn't know whether I should cry or not.

I hope they don't do that, looting will just take longer. Its much better without, Gothic 3 and Risen have animations for lots of common tasks, its annoying.

Considering the minor, yet useful, nature of the change made for Fallout 3, I would expect Bethesda to keep that change and I hope they do.

ya animations are annoying as heck, we know you are leaning in to pick something up, the game doesn't have to dumb that down for you.

Well if they just make the animations quick and do them right then you wont need to wait hours to do something.

Yeah I hope they keep owned weapons attached to the inventories. Anybody ever chased a glass mace or sword down a hill for twenty minutes, just to search for it in the grass for another twenty? Yeah...

The weapon of the NPC in Oblivion was still there if they didn't draw their weapon before you killed them. It would be nice to have an animation while looting somebody then. I think that weapons being detached from the inventory when they die and drop it makes more since and gives more to the realism. As for items rolling down hills and you chasing them, that's only happened like twice to me and I just let it go lol.

Here comes the phrase "dumb down". How does that even dumb down anything? It just adds visual candy. That's not dumbing down. This is exactly the thing that makes no since when people say Oblivion is "Dumbed down" even though in reality nothing takes less thought, it's just a phrase that is supposed to arouse the thought that something is lesser just to get others to think that it is a bad thing.

I think there should be a mini game where you tear the bodies apart to find the loot, just like real life.

it's tedious and annoying to sit there waiting for the inventory screen to pop up as your guy kneels down. I could care less for it, since it's not really visual candy it's an animation of a guy kneeling down?

This is barely related but I really hope they keep the "keyring" from the FO games, having to scroll through 150+ keys in Oblivion to get to a hammer or w/e was such a pain.

In the video tour there's a brief glimpse at the white board that shows:

? All containers or just corpses

? How do we get to this menu

? Logic for good items (value only?)

? Only show good items

? Auto-take gold

This would seem to indicate that we'll be seeing an overhaul in looting/container inventory design. We may auto-take gold and perhaps see some items upon hovering the cursor (before opening the loot menu), etc.

You guys are killing me...ah, good stuff.

OT: I don't really care, if i have to look for it so be it but please no animations for something your going to do a lot. The point of leaning away from traditional rpgs towards action is to eliminate busy work not create it.

Totally. So long as you could skip them. The skinning animation in RDR was cool until you had watched them a million times in a row.

You would think picking up gold would be automatic. Who would want to leave it behind? Also I play in first person so animations woul dbe rather anoyying espeically if it goes to thrid person and back like it does in FO3 when sitting
