Looting?

Post » Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:50 am

How do you think looting off corpses will be handled, with the new real-time menu?
Will there be a sort of mini-game where you:
-Search the bandit's bod for money and armor, or
-skin the troll/deer/whatever for their meat/skin, or
-mash up skeleton bones for bonemeal, or
- put ghost remains into a bag for their ectoplasm...
ETC...

Share your opinions, foresights, etc...

i expect that looting will be the same as it has always been, except the loot icon will look more realistic, and the dropped loot will look more realistic

As long as I can still loot as much as possible that's all that matters. All I need is a feather spell to take my 4 war hammers to the nearest shop and sell them... ha

Hope they don't spoil this with a minigame. I expect it to be the same as always, maybe with skins and stuff like that only available if you're good enough with Farming etc.

Minigame to loot things, no, it's cool at the beggining, very frustrating after sometime, and terribly annoying after 50 hours.

But based on those sketches on the GI Bethesda video, it seems like they are perfecting looting to make it more enjoyable, with things like auto-pick gold, etc.

This is one of the few things that would actually make me not buy this game. I would buy the game if it caused cancer in my naughty no nos, but not if they did this.

Maybe the mini game will be optional, and if you do it then you get more/better quality stuff when you do.

Sweet mother of Azura.

WHY would you want to play a mini-game just to loot a corpse? If I want to loot a corpse, I'm looting the damn thing! If the Devs don't take it kindly that I'm doing it to an innocent in a town, then either make 'em essential or give me a bounty on it.

Im all for some new animation or whatever, so long as we can skip them.

Watching the PC stoop down, and start to loot/skin an enemy every single time would get old super fast, and was one of my only complaints about “skinning” in Red Dead.

Farming?

Yup. Farming, mining, crafting, smithing, cooking and woodcutting are in the game, in addition to enchanting and alchemy. But they are not skills, although Smithing seems to be...

looting should be fast and easy.....too many things to kill too little time to get it all done before you look up and realize you've been playing for 10 hrs and you need to get a couple hrs sleep before work...

I hope the looting stays the same, with crafting handled like alchemy in Oblivion.

That topic is about looting, this one is about how terrible minigames are.

What's this about a real time menu? What does that mean?

Real time menus means that while you access things like the map, inventory, skills, etc, the in-game time will keep passing and you will be open to attacks and alike.

Though, this was not confirmed in the GI issue. Back sometime ago, I made an assumption that is possible that real-time menus could be implemented, maybe these people read it and thought I was confirming that there was a real-time inventory...

Could it mean that the game doesn't pause when you enter the menu? Just a guess, but that would add more realism to the game.

Hopefully not. Or if there is a hardcoe mode of sorts put it there but not in the normal game.

Wouldn't mind real time menus as I can loot an entire body without hitting loot all in about 2-5 seconds, depending on if they were an archer and/or died by arrows.

Judging from the stuff we've heard and seen so far they're probably going to streamline looting so that people only drop important items now, or we autopickup everything, something stupid like that. I hope not, because even if many items on people aren't too useful, it was my CHOICE to pick something useless off the body.

I hope they scratch the auto-pick gold or only show valuable items suggestions that were shown on the white board.

My character could, for whichever reason, not want any gold, or could want low-quality-items.

A loot minigame: A bit much work I guess, although I would welcome such minigames for certain kinds of "loot", such as meat, pelts etc.
