He's over 4000!!!

WHAT 4,000??

Seriously, 4,000 is pushing it. 1,000 maybe, but 4,000 puts him back in the Mythic Era.

Wrong! It puts him ~200 years into the first era!

First era = 2920 years
Second era = 840ish years
Third era = 434 years

Ooh, snap. I was guestimating that the First Era was ~600 years shorter.

Let me pull out my Middle Earth time line sheet somewhere...I don't know. Try finding the year Beren and Luthien had children to the very end of LotR, and that's how old he is.

And...that's kind of cheating. Elves in TES can die of old age, the elves of Tolkien cannot.

And what would a Ranger know of this matter?

No no no! You're supposed to say "This is no mere ranger. He is "your name here", son of "his name here". You owe him your allegiance."

Damn! That's kind of wierd now.
But then, if Chimer(later Dunmer) can live 4000 years, then why the oldest human was Talos at age 108 (Correct me if Im wrong... I think I am).
I thought Bretons have a magic boon from their Altmer ancestors - so why they cannot prolong their lives?
Is there anyway to describe it or is this just another polishing-needed matter that Bethesda decided to leave as it is?
And guys... I am not talking about liches :P

Simple answer: Talos wasn't Breton. You can be from a place and not be a member of the indigenous ethnic group. I never saw anything explicitly state he was Breton.

Oh I am afraid you didn't understand me. Let me clear this out.
Talos (Tiber Septim, Ysmir) was from Skyrim, I'm sure. Was he Nord? Who knows, possible. But I haven't said that he was Breton.
I just wanted to make conclusion. As both Bretons and Nords are humans and the oldest was 108 years old.
Then I asked why Bretons cant prolong their life as a mortal being as they also have "a magic in their veins".
I understand that my post was pretty unclear, hope it's good now.

Because this game series is only about 18 years old and it's created by only a handful of people at Bethesda. Words in real life have changed through the course of evolution, which is much more than 18 years.
The game series might only be 18 years old, but the ingame universe is much more, hence words have evolved over time. Empress and Emperor don't even have the same word root!

Dunmer don't live until they are four thousand. A noble can expect at least three hundred, a commoner can expect about a hundred and fifty, and for the Ashlanders you probably just take off fifty years. The Telvanni use magic. They shouldn't be discussed here, as almost any race can do that - the elves just have an advantage, especially the Altmer, who aren't as opposed to that type of magic as the Dunmer.

And, yes, Divayth is four thousand years old. He was a Chimer when he was born.

well, Divayth Fyr is just plain uber. Simple as that. Bretons could extend their lives, but their kinda at a disadvantage in that they probably have a humie life span, while Divayth would have been able to develop his earliest attempts at life-extending magics over the course of several hundred years if he kept himself in good health. Any breton simply wouldn't have as much time in their natural life span to do the work.

edit: but really, any race could extend their life through magic, they don't have to be elves.

Also, what gallow said, Divayth's life span is super unnatural for a dunmer.

2E 227 ? Tjurhane Fyrre dies.
Interestingly enough, his name is Fyrre - very similar to Fyr and the date of is death is probably very near, if not the same, to the date of birth of Divayth Fyr.
I know he was Ayleid and Divayth was Chimer, but this is just a little note, interesting I belive.

No, its actually a few thousand years away from Fyr's date of birth.

They can, we just haven't met any of them, something helped by the fact that we haven't had a modern game set in High Rock...

So Nords live to about 100 and they are in fact human, just like Imperials and Bretons, right? Well that's about the same as humans on Earth, sorta.

I highly doubt that's the average life span.

That'd be the Cyrodiils and Bretons at best. Your average nord is probably going to live to 60 to 70 (and this is a guess), due to an often violent and harsh lifestyle. Your average cyrodiil and breton, on the other hand, are a little more civilized and try not to live in so much constant danger, so I'd say they were in the ballpark of 80-90. I'd also add redguards probably have an average lifespan around that of nords, due to also a violent and harsher lifestyle.

Damn, looks like I messed up everything pretty bad, sorry for that and again thanks for help.
Well, of course Divayth Fyr is older than 4000!
The easiest example is that he is older than Yagrum Bagarn...
Thanks again.
