Lord of the Rings Online

Post » Mon Aug 02, 2010 11:31 am

If you guys are looking to start a guild kinship with all new characters I'd suggest choosing one of the brand new servers - there'll be lots of people in the same boat as you (many new to the game) and you won't have all the old established kins and characters. That may not be a minus to some, but it would probably be more satisfying to "grow up" together with all the other new people on a fresh server instead of one of the old ones.

Fine, the European version was delayed.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE? EUROPEAN FREE TO PLAY LAUNCH DELAYED

Codemasters Online today announces that the launch of The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) Free to Play Store and the latest content, Book 2; Ride of the Grey Company will now launch across Europe later than expected.

"We are really pleased with the performance of the game and excited about the response to Free to Play from our players.” said Mike Rowland, Producer of LOTRO. “Given the complexities and challenges faced in the preparation and implementation of the new store to work within our infrastructure, we feel more time is needed to deliver the high level of service our players have quite rightly come to expect. As a result, we have decided to delay launch to ensure that we can support the massive increase in players that we are anticipating and deliver them a Free to Play experience like none other."

Sorry, I just don't get how I was supposed to realize this from your post, considering I didn't even know there were different versions :P.

I thought it was delayed...

My download is going uber slow. It tells me it's going at around 700 kbps despite the fact that my ISP cap is 350. Anyway, I'm halfway done and should be finished in a couple hours.

Ah, gotcha.

Wait, you don't have to re-download it if you already have it installed do you? I'm assuming you're going to go free.

Used to play. Seeing as how I wasn't interested in the "welcome back weekends", I don't think I'll ever bother with this. If I were to play/pay for an MMO, it would be http://www.fallenearth.com/. That game's pretty sweet.

The only thing preventing me from playing this game is the fact that my laptop can't handle it. So I have to make do with WoW :sadvaultboy:

Yeah xp gain is in there, +10 stat tomes (goes up to +30), food, cosmetic items, mounts, and a bunch of other stuff. But no unique items, they wouldn't make those available.

Don't think there's a Mac dedicated version, not sure if the regular game works on Mac.

The game finally finished DLing for me, installing right now. I'm kinda hoping that this client is fully patched so that I don't have to worry about downloading them for hours. It's midnight here and I just want to get to bed.

So, as many of you know Lord of the Rings Online will 'reboot' as a Free 2 Play MMO on the 10th. I loved LOTRO when it started and I'm a former subscriber so I'm definitely going to check this out but I was just wondering if anyone else had planned to try the game.

Anyway, I'm going to be playing it and if anyone wants to meet in-game, that'd be cool. Maybe we could get together enough people to have a BSF meeting in game and do group quests and stuff. ^_^

http://www.lotro-europe.com <-- European LOTRO site, you can download the client from there.

Yeah, saw it advertised on Wowhead, and am currently downloading the client. Something to do since there's nothing to do in WoW but beg for ICC invites.

You do have to download all the updates. There are probably 14,000 files or so, it shouldn't take THAT long, but it does take a while. Of course I could be wrong. I know this past update was 6,000 files, and the 8 or so updates before that were 2-5,000. It'll probably take all night.

I was looking at it. I am shocked you don't even pay to start with the game. I thought you would have to buy the game first. You don't. Yes I see restricitons so not shure how bad they are untill you pay. Maybe they made the game so good that you just have to pay to get the better options.

Nothing too bad AFAIK, it won't be as severe as Runescape. I'm planning to give it a try at some point, see what's available on F2P.
