Anyone getting this game? I just recently heard about it. It's a next generation action RPG and it's launching next week. I'm seeing a lot of people comparing it to the Souls series, so it has my attention.

Seems like an amazing game and I'm looking forward to it.
What systems is it going to be available for?
After watching a bunch of gameplay, I am definitely curious.
The combat looks much better than I was expecting. A lot of the Souls players seem to be enjoying it too, and comparing it favorably.
I don't have a new-gen console yet, but I might pick this up when I eventually do get one.

While Vaati appears to be optimistic, I can't say the same for myself. The way he describes it, it feels like it doesn't reward skillful play, what with its greater emphasis on tanking damage rather than avoiding it. Most of his deaths came from him running out of healing items, rather than being overwhelmed. Doesn't really bode well.
It might be a fine game, but so far, it just sounds like a pitstop before Bloodborne hits the scene. Or a poor man's Souls for those who don't have a PS4.
I watched Lobos play the Rouge class (basically a Dex build) and he said it was much harder and you could not rely on being a tank. Dodging was necessary.
It looked a lot more fun too, than the Warrior class.
Classes in this game definitely define how you play, unlike Souls where any Class can be shaped into any build.
From what I've seen, it does demand skill, just at a slower pace.
I'm just glad it's not a God of War clone, because some of the trailers and art design make it look like that.
?It seems like it could be a fun game. I watched ENBs preview and I also caught of bit of Lobos' stream.
I like that you can skip checkpoints to increase risk/reward, and the boost from being near your bloodstain but not retrieving it is interesting from a strategy standpoint. The chain hit timed combos also seem like they could be fun to master.
I will likely get it sometime in the new year after a couple of price drops. Still have a few PS3 games to finish before I go buy a PS4 anyway and by then it'll fall behind Bloodborne and Dragon Age 3 on the to do list
The game is selling well, so DLC has been announced.

I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that it has a tendency to crash. Can't remember where though, I want to say PC gamer.
Yup: http://www.pcgamer.com/lords-of-the-fallen-review/
IDK, they may have fixed it, but I haven't upgraded my PC in a couple of years, so we'll see. Actually last real upgrade of hardware was done 3 years ago I think. But the game looks interesting enough.
Yup, I seem to meet most of the minimum requirements though. Need more RAM though.
They are working on patches to address the crashes.
Here's the recent patch notes:
Ok, well, I would still need some upgrading. The game looks cool enough though.
Alright, I swear there was a thread for this somewhere but searching the forum has yielded nothing.
This is the Lords of the Fallen thread. It is here, like any other game thread, to discuss all things pertinent to the game. The game is a 3rd person hardcoe action RPG with a set protagonist named Harkyn who you can customize as you play. It follows a lot of the basic formula as Dark Souls in terms of game design, but definitely does its own thing as well. I would recommend the game, but see my impressions in the first post below for my reason why.
I consider the Souls series pertinent to the game, so some mild discussion of such is tolerable. Naturally, they can be compared as the games, while quite different in many ways, are similar in many as well. There is a thread for the Souls series so in-depth discussion about such should take place there. Both games are apparently published by Namco Bandai according to the wiki. I had no idea Lords of the Fallen shared a publisher with the Souls series.

Impressions so far.
My basic impressions after playing till about what I am assuming is the halfway point. No story or environmental spoilers ahead. Just gameplay comparisons. But to keep things neat. I will spoiler tag it.
First off, I have tons of experience with the Souls series. Probably 1000 hours across the series. Most of my impressions are stemming from the idea that this game is Souls-like.
The game is fun and if you are looking for a souls fix you have come to right place. However, here are some key differences and similarities to keep in mind; as the game is more or less a better looking, less elegant and clunkier version of the Souls series. Differences -YOU CAN PAUSE!! I like that you can't pause in Dark Souls. This game lets you pause. You can pause and change your weapons and armor. You can pause to just chill. You can Pause. -Set Protagonist. Probably my least favorite part of this game. Harkyn isn't bad or anything. But having preset backstory and such just seems weird in this type of game to me. -The game is a lot less...lonely than the Souls games. It feels busy in comparison. -Aesthetic. The Aesthetic is somewhere between Kingdoms of Amalur and Darksiders. It has few realistic leanings. I prefer some realism and this game crosses the line a bit in terms of weapon and armor design, but that is entirely a personal thing. The basic aesthetic is a enjoyable one. -Online. It has no multiplayer component. That is kind of a good thing judging from the game itself to be honest. Multiplayer would be weird. Set protagonist and fairly clunkier combat mechanics (that work well in the PVE) would make for some odd PVP. -Loot Progression. It is linear. You cannot use every weapon or armor till the end and expect them to be useful. You have to use new weapons and armor as you move through the game. Which basically means rule of awesomesauce applies to weapons and armor via the standard modern fantasy aesthetic. eg. weird weapons and shoulderpads of doom. -Weapons. Each weapon type has a different moveset, but all weapons in that type have the same moveset. However, some weapons have some special moves unique to them, but I have only encountered like 3. -Difficulty. The game gets considerably easier as you progress. In fact, you can grind enemies to make yourself kick the crap out of everything you encounter if you want to. There is some challenge to it, but any Souls vets will find it fairly easy. This game has more health sponges and is forgiving in the amount of damage dished to the player. This makes boss fights more slow paced. It is much harder to avoid attacks in this game as well. I frames are a little wonky but do their job. -Quality Control. This game has bugs. The most frequent one I encounter is an audio big that makes all NPCs have no sound when they speak to you. Although they do have subtitles. This can be fixed by rebooting the game. Completely exit the entire game and then continue. Should fix the issue until it crops up again. Other than that, all other bugs were one time affairs and there were not that many of them. -Camera. It is very similar but the angles get very weird and can be troublesome. There are some killcam-esque moves in the game as well, but they are not that prevalent. Usually just a slow down before you kill the enemy. --Story. It is fairly barebones like the Souls series, but more linear and traditional in its presentation. Most players will have a decent idea of what is going on. Similarities Mostly what you would expect. -Checkpoints. There are what essentially are the equivalent of bonfires. These red crystals. They replenish health, serve as checkpoints, you level up at them and restore your potions(basically an estus flask). However, they function a little differently. You can exhaust them until they recover for one. You may only be able to checkpoint and level up if you exhaust the crystals. However, functionally, they are very similar to bonfires. -Combat. All actions consume energy (stamina). You can block, parry, riposte and backstab. You roll around to dodge. The basic premise of combat is similar as well. Caution, study the movement of he enemy and attack when it is vulnerable. There are some minor differences but you can figure those out as you go. The game has magic, but it plays a smaller role from what I can tell. -Quest Log. There isn't one. The only thing that stands out as different is that your main objective is known to you at any given time. -World design. Pretty much a similar layout as the Souls series. Just more linear. -Bosses. Bosses serve the same role as the Souls games. Major impediments to progression. Tougher battles. Unique opponents. Etc etc. -Enemies. They are placed to catch you unawares. They can kill you pretty quick if you are not careful (provided you are not grinding to be overleveled). -Stat requirements. Weapons and spells have them. -Poise and poise damage. Armor has poise. The stat that governs it is called...Poise. Basically operates in the same way. If you use big weapons, poise is your friend. Weapon types have different poise levels. What I think. The game is fun. While it has its issues, it is basically a decent Souls clone with some pretty major differences. Personally, I think most people that enjoyed the Souls series will enjoy this game as well. But they should probably wait till a price drop as the game is not worth the same $60 that you would spend on a Souls game. It is still worth the $60 on its own merits though, so if you want a Souls fix with a side of different. Give it a shot.
The search function has been misbehaving lately.
Threads merged.
Apparently. I knew there was a thread lol.
No offense to ya Jack, but uh...wanna swap OPs? Feel free to copy paste mine.
Thanks.
How many times did you die to him? I died like 5 times in all honesty. Most of it was adjusting to the combat differences, but it was a fun fight.
Wait...missed it from the DS series or missed it in the DS series? If the latter, I would have to disagree with the "This guy is really powerful" thing. There are a wealth of examples in Dark Souls of complete badasses in the boss department. Rebel Knight Raime, Gwyn: Lord of Cinder, Artorias the Abysswalker, Sir Alonne, Ornstein and Smough, Black Dragon Kalameet, the Burnt Ivory King, Aava the King's Pet, Smelter Demon, etc etc. The souls series is slightly subtle about it I guess. Sometimes not so much.
