Lore: 200 years of strife

Post » Thu Jun 16, 2011 9:21 pm

From what little we know, much has changed in the 4th Era. Valenwood and Summerset are under the rule of the Thalmor Dominion. It's also been stated that racial tensions will become more prominent in Skyrim. Will the Thalmor Dominion survive 200 years of chaos?

Vvardenfell has been obliterated, with the rest of Morrowind conquered. What will become of important figures like King Helseth or Barenziah? Or even perhaps Vivec, whom is debated to be alive?

What of the actions of our heroes? The Tribunal as we knew it is gone, Mannimarco is dead, the Dark Brotherhood is all but crippled, a new order of holy knights along with its saint has arisen, and even the daedric realms have shifted. Jygallag has returned, and a new mortal has supposedly taken the mantle of the Mad God. These events will surface in Skyrim, but how can it be realistically done?

What about the Empire? I doubt Titus would have left Ocato alive, nor would Ocato have submitted to a tyrant.

Don't expect to see all past events and repercussions detailed in Skyrim. If they manage to fit them in, perfect. The division of two centuries between games gives Bethesda ample time to flesh out the new Tamriel and then fill in the missing spots.

As for how it will be done, books and hearsay. Lots and lots of books and conversations.

1) Yeah, the fight with Mannimarco was, anticlimatic. But his God form may yet persist (Warp in the West).

2) Yes of course, I don't expect everything to be covered. But the important figures in history, they usually persist in tales. What do you think became of them?

What I want to know in Skyrim:
How(or if) the Knights of the Nine have survived the declining of the empire.
I wonder what happened to Diviath Fyr(I think he would be able to survive the destruction of Vvardenfell).
How the god-form of Mannimaco have evolved after the death of mortal Mannimarco.
What have happened to Vivec.
What happened to the Skaal on Solestheim.
How will the other Daedric Princes react to Jyggalag.
Is Yagrum Bagarn still alive? He was under the preotection of Diviath Fyr.
What was different between the dwemer of Skyrim and Morrowind.
How have Martins sacrifice affected the Nine Divines(have he been appointed a god like Talos/Tiber Septim).

Just of the top of my head.

I doubt we'll ever really know what happened to Vivec, though I personally like to imagine the events of the Trial as canon. I'd really like to know how the Daedra will shift with Jyggalag back in the picture.

I would quite like to see a map of perhaps "updated borders".

I guess I'm one of the few who did not like the Trial, but I could see it ending up canon for the sake of removing one of the less morally ambiguous princes from Tamriel

Oh I've seen plenty to dislike the Trial. :) I've just always enjoyed it for it's depiction of Vivec's character.

Not sure if this is true, but I remember reading that now that a large chunk of Morrowind has been destroyed, a very large amount of Dunmer moved to Solstheim and some event went to Skyrim. I wonder if that means there will be Dunmer settlements in Skyrim?

No, he pretended to go along with a trial in order to publically humiliate Azura and (temporarily) break her power, and then left for Aetherius. "The Trial" didn't officially become canon, but aspects of it became canon -- the fact that Vivec has departed the Mundus, for example.

Aradal wondered what happened to Ocato. When I read Keyes' novel "The Infernal City", it never mentioned Ocato; he was apparently long gone when Titus Mede defeated the last warlord of the Imperial City and declared himself Emperor. (I don't have the book in front of me at the moment, but Titus mentions the warlord's name and says that he (Titus) took the Imperial City with only a few thousand troops.)

From what I've been reading on the forums, the remnants of the Empire have been killing off the Blades by the time of "Skyrim". I wonder when that started, and by whom -- maybe Titus, or even before he came to power.

You know that there's gonna be a book talking about how there is a new Madgod who happens to be the Champion of Cyrodiil - and all the followers of Sheogorath just brush the book off as the writings of some crazy idiot.

Taking it a step further, if you have the book on you when you summon the madgod at his shrine, he'll comment on it!

"Ah, you've read my book it seems? I wrote it you know! At least I think I did. Maybe I didn't. I've changed so much since I was mortal. And yet nothing has changed at all. Infact I just visited Dagon again last week. Old habits die hard, even after so long. He tried to kill me right away like always, but for some reason I just love going there and taking his stuff. Grabed so many orbs that I almost couldn't move this time. Say, did you know carrots used to have weight? Ya, that whole weightless thing was me. Hilarious, huh? Carrots! The new cheese...hey, Haskil - Get me some carrots and cheese ready. I'm maken myself hungry... Wait, what was I talking about? Who are you? You want something?"

Vivec is said to have been "taken" by the daedra.

You're right about that fight, and I hope I get to wipe that smug look of that annoying elven bastard again.

Oh, and I forgot: OP is wrong, it's actually 201 years after Oblivion. (watch the E3 vid when he has the map out, lower right-hand corner).

This is something I've thought about.

It will be very hard to make everything feel right (lore wise).
