I have recently got more interesting in becoming a "lore buff" and have tried to read up on as much lore as I can. I am also playing ESO at the moment. I read in some old threads here that there was a lot of debate before ESO was released about the lore in it and if it would be consistent and cannon worthy. I wonder what the "conclusion" about it has been since its release? What is the thought about ESO and its lore here among the lore people?

As for me: It's the best game lore-wise since Redguard/Morrowind.

Large amount of lore, good usage of the "unreliable narrator" principle (next to non-existent in Oblivion and Skyrim), very good characters (only Redguard has better), good amount of "daily life info", and some weird/deep lore here and there.

Of course, there are some odd and silly things time to time, and I don't like very much the Altmer as portrayed in the game (I want them to be more SF-ish). But globally, its lore is very very good.

I am suprised about Redguard. I was almost under the impression that Redguard was not even regarded as part of the official series?

By people who judge the series in terms of the numbers on the box, maybe. Redguard is the backbone of TES in terms of lore, though.

I don't think a conclusion has been, or will ever be, reached in terms of ESO. I, and a lot of other people, recognize that there is a ton of cool new stuff that deserves to be discussed. I also recognize that there's some not good stuff that can be forgotten, and for some that stuff takes precedence and they are happy to disregard the whole game. For me, this kind of thing depends on the individual pieces of lore, not on the game they came from.
