Lore associations of music and sound

Post » Mon Feb 17, 2014 3:15 am

I apologize if this thread seems out of place in the Lore forum, it seems to fit to me, bit it's one of those grey areas.

Enough explaining, though, I'd like to know what kind of music and sound people associate with different aspects and areas of the lore.

For example, when discussing anything about Morrowind or it's culture, I tend to think of the music of the rock band Tool, especially songs from their Lateralus album, like this:

(I recommend a listen for anyone with ten or so minutes to spare, it's really beautiful)

The strange, alien sound aligns perfectly with the way I've always personally seen Morrowind.

I often hear panflute music in my head when I think of Valenwood, and static-ey sounds for all the origin stories.

Does anyone else have any particular music or sound they identify with a part of TES lore?

The song "Oceans of Tomorrow" by the German metal band Angel Dust (no need to incur meaning to their name) seems a bit aligned with some of the recent revelations. It also has a story of struggle to find out who we are and how we fit into the schema of things in our universe.

The music itself will not fit all tastes, so I'll post the lyrics here (Nothing offending is contained within):

Spoiler

Lyrics :

Retread - lay down the row
That I′ve been told to fight
For whom ?

The child in me is dead
Innocence is lost
Ripped out of my heart
By whom ?
By whom ?

I′ve found my way
So I thought and so I hardly tried my whole life
Or could I have failed?

Oh Lord , watch over me
So I prayed each night
And believed to do the right
How could he fail

Too dult - to open my eyes
Too blind - to look , what′s behind
Too vain - to confess my own lie

Pain - through which hell we have gone
Pain - into void we were thrown
Pain - we brought and we suffered

Pain - mankind went insane
Pain - there′s no way to undo
Pain - cos′ I followed you too

(solo)

Pain - through which hell we have gone
Pain - into void we were thrown
Pain - we brought and we suffered

Pain - mankind went insane
Pain - there′s no way to undo
Pain - cos′ I followed you too

Now, I like this thread idea.

This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-wv4pFodIQ is what I listen to when I play Oblivion. May seem uconventional, but seriously. Even when you're in the rolling hills of Septim's terraformed Cyrodisn't, this just perfectly evokes the jungles of Nibenay that aren't there. Feeds a trance of mangroves and painted eyes, like some kind of ritual hallucinogen.

And this is Memospore, if that's considered lore enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwT4AiwmBCM (warning for flashy strobes).

Oh, and I guess I should mention this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-20tFVLS0w most people ascribe throat-singing to the Dunmer due to the Mongol-Turkic stuff in their culture - yurts and that - but for me it's the Thu'um.
