Except they were supposed to be extinct...

Now there's nothing necessarily wrong with that contradiction. After all, it's plausible that everyone on Tamriel would believe them gone when in fact they're just hiding under rocks or something. But there's still a contradiction here.

Because in-game characters are never bias, uninformed or unreliable, right?

I didn't suggest they weren't. All I'm saying is that the sudden reappearance of the frost giants contradicts everything we already "knew" about them. That's a fact.
