Lore-friendly Landmass Name

Post » Sat Aug 24, 2013 11:02 am

I'm working on a landmass mod for MW, which add an island to the north of the Sheogorad Region. It's meant to be taken as something that was always there, just not available in the game at launch, like Solstheim. It has the same kinds of things that the island of Vvardenfell does, such as Dwemer ruins, Daedric ruins, ancestral tombs, caves, etc., and so I want it to have a name that fits in with the way Vvardenfell is named, I want it to feel like just as ancient of a place.

However, I'm not sure what I should look into in order to find such a name. It's my understanding that the word "Vvardenfell" is a Dwemer word, meaning "Shield City", or "City of the Strong Shield". Use of a similar naming scheme would work, I think, but I'm not up to speed on the Dwemer language, so I'm hoping someone here might be knowledgeable enough to at least point me in the right direction.

Any help in this matter will be appreciated.

Tell us a bit more about the island. Who lives there, what is their culture? These are key elements when coming up with a name. Gives you a basis.

There's no community of people living there, most of the inhabitants are actually goblins.

What's the biggest ruin on the island? Or the primary focal point?

Throughout history, the island has been home to numerous Dunmer settlements, none of them particularly noteworthy (think Gnaar Mok or Maar Gan), which were built and lived in mostly by Dunmer. The most prominent ruin on the whole island is Ashemendothra, a Daedric ruin, where a large community of goblins, and their Altmer king, have lived for over 400 years. That's the closest thing to a longstanding city the island has ever had.
