Loremaster Certification?

Post » Fri Sep 17, 2010 11:19 am

Hi Guys,

The answer is prob gonna be no, but does anyone know if there is an Elder Scrolls Loremaster certification? If not, do you think Bethesda or some official party should make one?

It may sound silly, but its a fun idea and it could be useful. ...

I'm not really sure what you're asking. If a person can get a Loremaster Certification? As in someone who is certifiably the most knowledgeable when it comes to TES lore?
Or is that not what you're talking about?

I just wanna know if there's an official certification that basically certifies you as knowing a lot about the Elder Scrolls Universe. Like say, an online test about TES lore, and if you get 70% + then you're a certified "Loremaster".

That would be pointless as most people would go on Google and get all the questions right.

They're nothing official like this this, and the closest there is to an unofficial certification would be joining the staff of the Imperial Library. Rumor is this process involves a lot of paddling.

Hmm, good point. Still, it would be a fun idea, but alas, a non-pragmatic one.

being a lore master doesn't mean you know every single piece of info. being a lore master means you know what this info means and how it means it. theres no way to test for that.

I never said that you should know everything and that that's what being a Loremaster meant, and I do agree that it means you should understand the lore. Still, there are ways to prove you know these things. It wouldn't be an automated test, but if it's a test composed of thorough questions who will be reviewed by experts themselves, then that right there is an accurate way of evaluating it. Of course, something like that is tedious at best. I'm not for or against it, I'm just going along with the idea.

its such a subjective thing though. anything worth asking has already been discussed (and hence can be cheated of from the forums) and anything not discussed doesn't have a clear answer. being certified as a lore master, to me, is something like being certified as a good scientist. you have to make thoughtful, insightful posts showing that you know the information and how to interpret it, and if you're really good your posts will be referenced and linked to by others. getting published in the FCG (pretty much defunct atm) or making Librarian is icing on the cake, but people like Adanorcil and Prowler were "lore masters" long before they got any sort of official recognition.

though i do think a series of "so you think you know lore" quizes would be fun. if i can find some sort of free quiz creating software i'd love to set some up.

Awesome - Or perhaps a program that records how many hours one has spent on The Imperial Library.

I didn't need to spend a lot of time over there to learn most of what I know. I don't really get along with the TIL community too well.

Pretty much this and what Lady Nerevar said. Also, you can learn most of your stuff here, you just need to read lore topics, how they apply, common myth themes, ask questions when things seem too weird or confusing, and blah.

If you haven't done so already, read this thread to help give yourself some foundation http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/15282-elder-scrolls-lore-faq/ . Oh, and you need to pay me $10.

Speaking from experience, this is very much undeserved.

In theory it sounds cool, but in practice it simply wouldn't work. It would be like having a hierarchal system in an online FPS, where the person that's a rank higher then you is telling you what to do. You'd end up with 7 year old kids bossing you around, and we all know what playing with them is like. I'm sure in a game like this you would lose rank for not doing what your told, or simply losing rank because the guy ahead of you chose to do so.

Again, it sounds like a good idea but it simply wouldn't work in practice. These forums are as close to a Loremaster that you're going to get.
