Lorenzo Cabot

Post » Mon Jan 11, 2016 11:00 pm

I helped him kill his family. I'm glad.

So I was going through quest 'The Secret of Cabot House' and had sided with the Cabots, slain Lorenzo and was talking to Jack. Game crashed. So I reloaded and was back at moving through the security doors to get in to Lorenzo again. Now I don't save and reload based on dialogue choices. I do put a bit of thought into things and take what comes to me. But this time around I started to think about how I felt the first time through when It felt uneasy talking to the Cabots. When Jack told me to kill everyone no matter what and do exactly as he said.... that rubbed me wrong. So I went the other way.

In the end I think Lorenzo is a wacky character but there may be something to that artifact. ((Maybe we'll find out in a DLC but not sure how that would work for those that killed him. Suppose it just wouldn't focus on him.)) I'm glad that the second time around I realized that the Cabots were jerks using the man of the house to extend their lives indefinitely.

Anyone care to share what they did and why?

OH, what can I really use the serum for? Seems fairly useless.

I choose immortality, and with my Institute ending, I RP it as I kidnap him, lobotomize him, so he can't do anything, extract his blood for future research to see if we can mass produce it to benefit the Institute.

Yeah, after siding with Lorenzo, I discovered him to be quite sane. I had sided with Jack in my first time through the quest, but it always struck me as odd, that even though Jack was so brilliant, that he couldn't find a way to cure his father in FOUR HUNDRED years.

And though it is initially startling to hear that Lorenzo's first order of business is to murder his family ... I think he's pretty justified. I mean, they locked him in a single small room with a bed and a chair, with no human contact for weeks at a time, for over four centuries. And the only contact was to bleed his blood to drink to make themselves immortal. That's messed up.

The serum is the best thing EVER. It lasts 1 real world hour of game time, and makes you pretty much immune to radiation damage due to healing +10 Rads a second. It also boosts your Strength Special by 5, allowing you to carry a lot more stuff, or hit a lot harder if a melee character, because it can boost that stat to over 10. PLUS it gives you +50 Damage Resistance, which is huge.

The serum basically turns you into the Incredible Hulk.

Ask Lorenzo for a dose, take it, and then ask for another, and you'll get 2 real hours worth of the effect for every trip to Cabot House.

Lorenzo was a man so evil Jack actually ad to pull strings to get him off death row and placed in his care because Lorenzo was that evil.

Also, its not surprising Jack couldn't find a way to cure his father, you cant cure Lovecraftian mind [censored].

Honestly I picked the side that didnt have me murder his family. The serum given out is just.. overpowered, to the point where it trivializes both the strength mechanic and radiation.

I know Lorenzo killed people to further his plans before being locked up. And I'm not saying Lorenzo is a nice or good man. (But I DO believe him sane.) But Jack is pretty messed up himself - and he is awfully obsessed with the power the technology possessing his father could yield. There were ways to contain Lorenzo while still treating him like a human being and giving him basic comforts and rights. Which Jack doesn't do, even though Lorenzo is his father. And they bleed the poor guy for hundreds of years after finding it makes them immortal ... even Emogene suspects her brother may be avoiding finding a cure in order to continue getting the serum. Maybe consciously, maybe subconsciously.

Jack is responsible for Edward becoming a ghoul too. The serum protected HIM, but he never offered any to Edward and forced him to accompany him through the fresh fallout of the bombs, then left Edward behind when he became too sick with radiation to return to the Cabot house.

The whole family is messed up really. The proper thing to do is probably kill them all, including Lorenzo. But gameplay mechanic-wise, I'd definitely take the serum reward over a gun that pushes people back. You know ... like a normal high-powered gun..... :shakehead: Gee, thanks, Jack. Just what I wanted from an ancient Lovecraftian artifact. Not immortality or knowledge or anything. A pushy gun.

EDIT: I also want to point out that Lorenzo never sends you to kill people like Jack does, and thanks you every time you help him. Jack just expects compliance, and the powerful Lovecraft-creature-possessed-guy always says please and thank you. ;)

I let him die in that room.
...
I mean...Come on. Potentially dangerous to everyone I'm fighting to protect, sinister power and unknown strength? Weird artifact stuck in his head making him crazy?
Some people just need to be put down.

But...but... immortality..... :cold:

I think having a serum that grants immortality would be of particular use for giving to a certain NPC who shall not be named here.

I saved him. The way his family were acting just didn't sit right with me for some reason. Decided to give the guy the benefit of the doubt before heartlessly murdering him just because I was told to. Worst case I decided I could just kill him afterwards. Turns out he is incredibly polite and well mannered, and has zero hostile intentions after taking revenge on his family, towards the player at least. Now he just sits happily in his house, not killing anyone, and definitely not giving the impression of crazy, sadistic and homicidal that his family insisted he was.

Has anyone released him, then immediately decide to kill him? Well I did..one tough sob..I did kill him with a 10mm and a baseball bat..took forever..

(He got glitch-stuck behind what looked like a chalkboard)

I then reloaded and let him die in his room, cuz I wasn't sure of any consequences by doing that if there are any...

Jack didn't know the serum protected him from radiation, by the time he found out it did it was to late for Edward.

Like a fully furnished cell with comfortable furniture lots of books and even booze to drink... oh wait he has all that already.

When? Jack sends you to investigate why a package wasn't delivered... it turns out it was stolen by raiders under the mental control of his father but Jack didn't send you to kill anyone. Or do you mean when he sends you to help secure the Asylum that's under attack by raiders?

Don't you later on see corpses of Lorenzo's victims around if you release him? Like, other than the Cabots. He makes it pretty clear that he wants to cause a lot of mayhem when he gets free, says this new world is perfect for him.

He does indeed infer something like that. I haven't seen anything out of place, but then again, I don't go looking, just pop in for my fix, shoot up the serum and leave.

Lorenzo is pretty insane but he masks it behind politeness. The immortality however was too sweet to give up. I am bit worried that he may decide it is time to betray the guy that freed him. I wish I could give the serum to Institute for research. Looks more interesting than FEV if you ask me and may save Shaun.

I meet him once in the wasteland where he had killed a bunch of settlers that where ghouls. He said he wants to look into the ghoul thing because their condition is similar to his own.

Does the serum stack with Med X? That would be 75% damage resistance just nasty.

I went with Immortality also. I'm quite happy how deep into vampire territory I'm able to push my character just in the vanilla unmodded game. Immortality is covered by this quest. Night vision is covered by a perk. Cannabilism covered by another perk. Immunity to fall damage covered by hard to acquire secret leg Armour. Predator vision covered by cherry mentats. I'm kind of secretly hoping that someone will mod full on vampirism into the game as a follow up to the Cabbot quest, or maybe Bethesda will do it themselves. Drinking blood isn't so terribly far from Cannibalism. It would have to either be Lorenzo coming to you with a proposition that he gives you vampiric powers that would free you from continued reliance upon him, in exchange for something. Or, using the institute to help research such abilities using his blood, or maybe him.

As an aside, I've not yet came across any victims of Lorenzo. Although that would be interesting. However there's another quest where I saved someone unsavory, and occasionally I come across the bodies of his victims.

Yeah, gee-whiz, what was I thinking? He has a whole 8x8 room to walk around in, and one shelf of books to read for half a millennia. Silly me. And the view - simply stunning gray concrete walls. No reason at all to become homicidal towards the people keeping you confined and drinking your blood.

Jack might have had more success in curing his father if he didn't leave him alone with only the thoughts of old demented gods for company. Just saying....

Now I REALLY want to know who that is but I don't want anything spoiled either. Unfortunately I'm already piecing together information about my sweet little baby boy that was ripped from my husbands arms before he was murdered in 'cold' blood....

I will be going back frequently to see what he's up too. It would be very interesting to find that he does more than just wander around the house in his voodoo mask. Even if evokes feelings of regret in my choice to rescue him and slaughter his family to aid his sweet sweet 400 year coming revenge. >.>

I think the Cabots really just had it coming. Rushing in there "Kill every one, no questions, do exactly as I say"..... I mean, come on. IRL I wouldn't have trusted Jack any farther than I could throw him. In my fallout ridden world though I think it's of little consequence. The world is already a crap chute, may as well take a chance on something interesting. You Only Cryogenically Freeze Once.

I wanted that serum so bad, I stopped playing and looked online how to get more of it.

Saw I had to free Lorenzo and freed him w/o second thought.

I'm roleplaying as a bad guy tho. :D

edit: Oh and I'm unarmed so the Strength benefits me hugely.
