Lorkhan, Creator?

Post » Fri Sep 24, 2010 8:15 pm

I have looked for this, but does anyone know for sure if Lorkhan really did create Nirn? Also, is he still out there somewhere, waiting to return, or is he just gone? The whole concept of Lorkhan is somewhat confusing.

FEEEEEEEED MYYYYYYYYYYYYY.... FRANKEN-STEIN. WHOOOAH-WHOAOOAHH!!!

Lorkhan... is.

[edit] Serious reply: Asking whether Lorkhan created Nirn is kind of an existential question - like asking whether you yourself created reality (ie, your own consciousness). In a way, yes. You both sacrificed something for it, and the myriad of other details regarding "other" objects and people that follow. But this answer is not the True Way, because that you have to decide for yourself.

Magnus was the prime architect of Nirn. Lorkhan is credited with the idea of creating Nirn, but it was the other et'Ada who did most of the dirty work. Lorkhan was killed and became a part of Nirn (and the two moons as mentioned), which is where most of the confusion probably comes from.

He may have originally created Nirn, if it was indeed once his Plane. Or at least was behind Nirn as we know it.

He came up with the idea for Mundas, but it is place where Kyne's realm would have been. Also, although Lorkhan came up with the idea Magnus made the blueprints, and many Et' Ada hgave their entireties to creation.

Shor is dead. The thing is, he has a tendancy to (being such a powerfull god) decide that he ISN'T in fact dead, and therefore come back in a mortal Avatar (AKA Shezzarine)

http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/monomyth.shtml, most specifically "The Dragon God and the Missing God," and "Lorkhan."

That's probably the best place to start for all things Lorkhan.

Also, here's a key note, which is also why mer and man have historically HATED each other, especially nords and altmer, they heavily disagree with Shor's original purpose. To the altmer, he was nothing more than a trickster who tricked the aedra and the other spirits to give up their awesome godliness to become crap. To the altmer, Lorkhan/Shezzar/Shor is a total bastard, while Auriel/Akatosh is awesome.

To the nords, they saw Shor's creation of the world as a divine gift; he gave them freedom from predictability and the ability to become greater than the gods. Vivec, who is a mer seems to agree with this idea, and went further to state Shor purposely failed to reach the highest gradient, so that others know what NOT to do. To note, the chimer/dunmer are not your typical elves, and disregarded altmer teachings. In addition, they see Akatosh (Alduin in their myths) as an insane devourer, and the bringer of both the end and beginning. This sentiment has been backed up in the obscure readings, I believe (spore dream or something?)

The redguards believe in something completely different. They seem to believe Akatosh and Lorkhan to only be a devouring serpent (I believe they combine the two, which is a noted idea that the two are different sides of the same coin), and Tall Papa punished them and a bunch of other spirits by making the mortal plane or something.

Lorkhan is the "creator" of Nirn in the same way as...

Lemme think of a good anology...

I tell my friend "It would be hilarious to draw a picture of a giant dong on the side of that building over there"

"Yeah so are you gonna do it, Hairdo?"

"Well I'm not much of an artist..more of an idea guy...but you could do it..just don't like, give me any credit or anything"

And then the guy drew the picture of the giant dong, but he decided at the last moment if he got caught he didn't wanna get blamed, so he signed it with my name, and then a bunch of angry people beat the crap out of me.

True story.

I imagine Lorkhan creating Nirn is much like my little cousin 'creating' a puddle on the garden pavement by knocking over the watering can.

Hows about - if your little cousin said to his pals: 'it would be fun to knock over that watering can' and make a huge puddle - then interestin things might happen - c'mon, lets all go do that!

That's when they all get splashed by the dirty water, the puddle upsets some biting ants and they get bitten. then one of them trips up and bumps the bee hive and ... they are scattered about the garden, the street etc in a terrible mess, crying and doing loads of naughty things and many of them are now wondering how their parents are goin to react :shocking:
