Only problem I have after playing DAGGERFALL recently, last time was literally over a decade ago, is I'd really like to fight some bats.
As others have mentioned, it's great for immersion. :foodndrink:

but how do they get in and out of the doors? LOL

seriously hope the 'caves' don't have doors on them like in OB

Have you not seen all of the openings on the sides and top of Bleak Falls?

We've literally hit an information wall :banghead:. When that happens, we go to the next level by re-hashing the information we have and dig deeper into the minor details, that otherwise would have been dismissed and passed by unheeded, and we make threads about it. It's not our faults.

I dunno, I think dungeon design, lighting design, sound design all achieve the necessary atmosphere amicably. In fact, I think they are already achieved so well, adding a canned horror movie trope kind of cheapens the experience. It could be if it were executed differently, I wouldn't have even noticed. Seems like an afterthought, implementation wise.

That could help the atmosphere if they were real bats and not a cheap scripted event. I am with the OP. I mean butterflies are real, bats not?

Maybe it is a placeholder.

Yep, you heard it here first, soul gems are not soulgemmy enough.

Next week, mead and beer same price, imurshunz ruined.

Everyone has a right to complain, but let's face it, some things are definitely more important than others.

Foxes, bats, goats, chickens, they all contribute to a more believable world. If we can collect butterfly wings and hawks' beaks, can I really use wing of bat in my potions, I wonder?

will it blend?!

This! My first thought was "Batman!"... Second thought was "Alchemy... *wrings hands* yes!"

I don't know if you guys noticed, you can also hear the dragon's roar of annoyance not long after he enters the dungeon. Also a good bit of added atmosphere I thought. ;)

Full disclosure: I don't think this is some kind of deal breaking "this game officially svcks" kinda thing, more something I noticed and was mildly put off by. Figured I'd run it up the flagpole and see if anyone else saluted.

Can we burn them like the butterflies? What about bat wings and bat antennae for use in alchemic fiddling?

Wouldn't it be funny if somebody made a mod to remove all the bats from the game. I mean, it's just so insignificant... who cares?

If they were a big mass of flying trollfaces, then you have a point.

That's it now. Thanks to Umrahel, my 'what will you do first when you boot up Skyrim?' has officially changed to seeing if I can use flamethrower on bats.

At 6:30 in the second HD video, bats fall from the ceiling and flutter off into the distance. The only problem is they look awful and abruptly disappear. Anyone else find this distracting? Personally I don't think it would work even if it DID look right, but that may just be me.

I don't find it disturbing at all. Seriously, how is adding a bit immersion to the dungeons a bad thing? Some just find a reason to complain no matter what..

What i do want to know is, what happens if you throw a fireball/flamethrower at them? Will it do nothing because they are part of the landscape? If that is the case, THEN will I find it disturbing.

I thought, as everyone else, they added great realism and detail to the game.

Noticed lots of things like this in the vids, all good.

Yeah they didn't look great in the video..but I bet they look better in actual game.

Yeah able to kill/attack them would be even more fun....
But that could be a pain in the "you know"

whoever said the bats were a horror movie cliche needs to go spelunking. bats love quiet, expansive tunnels and caves, hell theres a colony that lives under a bridge not far from where i live :foodndrink: we get along great.
just like wolves, bats are a misunderstood creature that has been revered and hated simply out of ignorance. they have a place in the caves of skyrim, and are a welcome ambient addition that makes the dungeon feel more alive.

They were pretty heavily aliased, but that's because it was a console demo. Sure bats are cheesy, but so are dragons, swords, and magic.
