Lose the Bats

Post » Sat Sep 17, 2011 3:20 am

At 6:30 in the second HD video, bats fall from the ceiling and flutter off into the distance. The only problem is they look awful and abruptly disappear. Anyone else find this distracting? Personally I don't think it would work even if it DID look right, but that may just be me.

They look fine and they add to the atmosphere of being somewhere that not many other go...

No, I think it adds atmosphere. They aren't perfect but it wasn't the main focus for me.

Nope, they look fine to me. Your opinion is obviously wrong.

They are awesome, you don't see small details like that in most games, I am very impressed.

What's the problem? They flutter away. Adds to the atmosphere tremendously.

I do agree that the whole abruptly disappearing thing is annoying and it does bother me a little, but the rest of the game will make up for it.

LOL, awesome.

Seriously though, I thought it looked fine and added atmosphere to the area. Like a lot of others here have said, it's a nice addition I think and it makes it feel like people don't go there often.

As pretty much everyone before me has already said, it adds to the atmosphere of a dark, somewhat foreboding place. Not only that, but the fact that the world is alive outside of AND within the dungeons is magnificent. I have a very good feeling that the caves are going to be much less boring than those in Oblivion. Not just because of the bats, of course, but they seem telltale to me.

Would have been better if they were actual 3D models instead of a 2D screen effect, but I think they are better than nothing.

Foxes, bats, goats, chickens, they all contribute to a more believable world. If we can collect butterfly wings and hawks' beaks, can I really use wing of bat in my potions, I wonder?

I like the bats. Sure, they weren't the pinnacle of graphical realism, but this is a TES game. If they break the immersion, then there's not going to be any immersion left after a half hour of gaming.

I like the bats, but I agree it was weird to see them disappear out of nowhere.

I'm so glad Bethesda just makes the game they want. We would have every feature stripped if they listened to all the nonsensical demands in this forum. Seriously, bats? Has it come to that? Is there nothing else to talk about. I mean your in a cave. It adds to the feeling of being in a cave. They look fine, and I'm glad they're there.

I sanction just that, they add to the somewhat "scary" atmosphere 'o caverns, caves and the likes!

I agree that it added atmosphere, but something about the execution seemed canned and cheesy to me. So yeah, not all atmosphere is good atmosphere. It felt like a gag from an Ed Wood film.

Loved them.

I only hope they don't go over the top and have them every room or passageway, might get bit annoying then.

And, just occurred to me there, if you were sneaking, would you spook the bats away? Giving an extra element to sneaking about caves if the bandits etc heard/seen the bats flying away?

Would be great if they did, but im happy either way :)
