Losing my head as a vampire

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:37 am

I created a race called the half-elves, and they seem to work fine - most of the time.

While playing with the MCP test cell, I noticed that my character had lost her head after turning into a vampire. The effect remained even after being "cured", but I could repair the damage by putting on a helmet and removing it. (this did not work while I was a vampire)

I have some heads set with the vampire flag, so I'm not sure what is going on. Is there some subtle art to making a playable race compatible with vampirism?

I have a copy of the mod on my 4-shared account if someone would be willing to beta test it for me.

Thanks!

When i lose my head, it's usually due to a addon i removed (Better heads for example). Enable the race menu again to fix it.

Course it's amusing walking around with only a neck :P

I seem to remember that vampire heads need to have their ID structured very specifically.
the vanilla ones look like this: b_v_argonian_f_head_01

I suggest keeping the "b_v_" prefix, and then follow the ID as close to vanilla as you can, according to the race/six you're using.

Can I assume that I need to duplicate each head with a vampire model then? I tried assigning the handful of vampire heads I had to slots, but I still lost the head when turning into a vampire. I will have to look and see how the other races are handled.

No, you need at least one head per race and gender, the vampire head. Not sure if more than one will do any good.

It is possible that this is related to another problem. I noticed my half-mer female didn't have hands in first-person either (despite my assigning them). I would seem the engine doesn't like races with only one gender, so I have replicated the half-elf males and assigned them to be half-mer males (same models) This seemed to fix the missing first-person hands problem, so I will try again, and see if perhaps that was the problem.

Who knew a race mod was so involved?

EDIT: Cripes - no go. I assigned the heads, but I still get a stump.

I do know that first-person hands also have to named very precisely.
b_n_dark elf_f_hand and b_n_dark elf_f_hand.1st are the vanilla example.

Hands were named correctly, but as I mentioned, the game didn't like the fact I had assigned only female hands. Once I assigned a male body to the race, they started working. Now I'm left to debug the lack of vampire heads...
