Losing interest in a Legion playthrough because Real Life

I used to be a Legion guy. Many years ago I'd be here having great debate threads (and flame wars) with other posters about the morality and philosophy and politics of Caesar's Legion. I find as of late I cannot enjoy it nearly as much as I used to, and its almost entirely because of current events.

We have the Legion, a fundamentalist multi-national group led by an idealogical iconoclast which employs terror and brutality to enforce its ideals while maintaining a strict moral and ethical code amongst its own people all in the name of a reactionary agenda to bring about great social and political change.

Does this remind you of anything?

Im talking about the so called Islamic State which can almost be perfectly described using the above definition. Reading too many headlines, and watching too many execution videos, and seeing too much of our shared human history and culture, physical and otherwise, destroyed by this group is almost too much for me. I'm having difficulty rationalizing it, even as a character being roleplayed without any meta knowledge.

Fallout nEW vEGAS is afterall a game, but I am shocked at myself at how affected I am by events in the real world while im sitting in my favorite comfy chair, in the comfort of my home, playing my favorite game of all time. Its suprising.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
