Losing weapons after Fus Ro Dah

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:08 am

I noticed that sometimes you lose weapons(they fall on the ground) when enemy Draugrs use the Force Shout on you.

Since I'm currently trying to decide between Sword + ward or Sword + dagger, I'd like to know more about how and when this happens. Sometimes it seems it happens 100% of the time, and sometimes you seem completely immune to it. Is it a level difference thing?

And can you avoid being disarmed by sheathing your weapons? The sheath animation is pretty long so you probably won't make it before the shout itself...

No, they use a Disarm shout on you. AFAIK, sheathing it works.

They don't use the Force shout, they use the Disarm shout. However, if there are many draugr shouting at you, you can often mistake Disarm for Force.

Also, if you suspect that you are about to be disarmed, unequip your weapon as quickly as you can by whatever means (favorites menu or Items -> Weapons) until the Disarm shout goes through. Those draugr are bastards when it comes to that Disarm shout.

It's a different shout than Unrelenting Force. It's a shout called, quite literally, Disarm, and you can learn it to. If they use it, you are disarmed if it hits you. But, I think only Deathlords and above have it, so no need to fret on the small fry.

Correct me if I'm wrong here folks, but I believe that you're getting blasted by the Dragur's "Disarm" shout rather than their "Unrelenting Force".

At least that's what I'm hearing when they do it.

So sheating isn't quick enough? Going to favorites menu every time when they shout is not my idea of fun.

I wouldn't doubt that the Dragur says the same exact thing when you Disarm them!

I've got 100 in 1H and 2H and I've not been disarmed in ages, shout or otherwise. Perhaps the further you progress in weapon skill tree's the less chance you have of it working. To me disarm doesn't seem to work on them so why can't it be vice-versa?

It is annoying when your weapon goes flying and can't find it and are resorted to starting the boss fight over from a prior save.

Frankly I llike it, makes battles more a challenge.

The draugr can use two shouts, so they were probably using the disarm one.

The first time I got disarmed caused a mini-breakdown. I'd just got hold of the Sanguine Rose and was having a great deal of fun dropping Dremora Lords on bunnies and whatnot and I discovered a small, above ground, Draugr mound. On my wander around it (getting my Dremora to blast apart the weak skellies present) I met up with a Draugr Death Lord, whom I had rudely awakened, and he was jolly unhappy. So he Fus Ro'd me, or so I thought.

Then I realised my Dremora had gone.

Then I realised my newest and favouritest toy had gone, the Sanguine Rose.

In a panic I double tapped r, hoping it was a display bug, no dice. Then I opened up favourites, not there either. Becoming somewhat short of breath by this point I opened up the menu to re-favourite it in the Weapons menu.

Not there.

A moment of blackest dispair followed, until I realised the Draugr was still attacking me. Then I blasted him apart with Lightening Storm (he had it coming). It later occurred to me that perhaps I'd dropped it somehow, and I hotfooted it back to the barrow as fast as I could, and was incredibly relieved to find it laying on the floor just feet from the Draugr.

Phew.

Something I notice alot in games is that there are certain things, that while realistic, should never be used as it lowers the "fun" value.

Disarming the npc who then has to find his weapon on the ground, assuming that said weapon is there and not below ground or flung to who knows where requiring a tedious search, refavorite it and reequip the weapon.

This to me is not fun. Disarming is not required to beat any enemy in the game even on the highest difficulty. I dont even use shouts except dragon rend if said dragon wont land.

Of course everyones opinion will vary.

If you want to add challenge, add tactics, ambushes, something other than, hur hur they have to find thier weapon now. I mean if i lose my weapon the mob will still die I am quite sure going thru the whole dungeon I picked up something i can whack said mob with.

Just my 2 septims.

I think I'll stick with a ward then, though it's kind of pointless as I'm aiming for 80% Magic Absorbtion... oh well. At least I will level my Restoration properly.

If your level gets high enough, you will no longer be affected by it.

Why this maybe somewhat true, it can be helpful in other ways such as using it on enemies you are fleeing from.

our survey said: eeeirr-eeeirnn
they use both.

disarm shout, it happens, shame you cant use the force to pull your weapon in.
generaly i stay close so any tossers using shouts take the edge of my sheild to the face which stops them shouting, shouts are quite ez to 3d as well so all is well. good thing too if i lost my favorite gear id have to ragequit/wifebeat/kids/drownkitten/ect

lol have you not been paying attention.
you dont have to be dragon born to use shouts, just practise, draugh, grey beards, ulfric, all use shouts but are not dragon born, dragon born can just shout without training.

I find a bound sword handy in those fights. Cost is low enough that my warrior can cast it, clean up the mobs, then find his axe. Ghost Blade is a nice back up too because of the low weight.
