I never knew Lord Devil was Quatloos, and almost until my last correspondence with her, I never knew he was a she.
And when I learned she was Quatloos, I could only respect her all the more. Here was a moderator who genuinely cared about the community. She gave back more than her fair share and sometimes received little in return. She did more than enforce fairness and civility. She set the standard.
The thoroughness and the objectivity of Quatloos' reviews never ceased to amaze me. It was almost an honor to be reviewed by Quatloos and it was an even higher honor to have her vote. But not because she was Lord Devil (like I said, I never knew), but because her word carried weight and I respected her word. She genuinely wanted to see people improve their mods.
As a fellow moderator, I got to see a side to Lord Devil that many people never got to see--a side behind the harsh, no-nonsense exterior. She was very kind, supportive. She took me under her wing and encouraged me. I am privileged in this and that I can call her a friend.
Someone asked, how did she pass? I did not plan to say anything out of respect for her privacy, but now that the news is out--for those who genuinely want to know and care--she was diagnosed was cancer. More specifically, cancer of the pancreas. Please, if you are the praying type, pray for her family.
Lord Devil, Quatloos, I will miss you. Thank you so much... for everything. Farewell, my friend.
