Loss of a Friend

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:58 am

Dear site visitors,

With great sadness I have to pass on an e-mail message that recently reached me: our most experienced and "old-time" staff member, Lord Devil, has recently passed away. She has been helping the site for a long time, from back when we were still Morrowind Summit, until and during the move, and when we relaunched as Planet Elder Scrolls. Her fair judgment has continually helped me personally to improve the site and to maintain a community. Moreover, our collaboration in Guild Wars and discussions on all kinds of topics were highly valued by me and others.

Using her alter-ego, Quatloos, she started participating at Morrowind Summit even earlier, supplying mod authors with the same level of insightfulness and fair assessment that would later mark her activities as moderator. In addition to that, she also produced a number of well-received Morrowind mods: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2960, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=697 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3734. I might not have said it often enough before, but right now I want to thank Lord Devil for all her hard work and all the help she offered in moderating this site.

Finally, I want to wish the best of luck to Lord Devil's family & friends. She will be missed greatly by the Planet Elder Scrolls site staff, the members of Planet Elder Scrolls' forums and community, and myself. Please feel free to e-mail me or post in this item's http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/oblivion_general_discussion/b49649/19818340/p1, to express your feelings :(

(I'm sure you have other things on your mind right now, I surely do, but for any future complaints, suggestions or reports regarding site comments and moderation, please continue using the site comment form for now or e-mail Vypress).

This may be old news, but nonetheless It is what i first saw on PES today. R.I.P LD/QL. you will be missed.

There is currently a thread going to create Lord Devil a shrine in Morrowind. This is a community-wide project so feel free to come and give your input of what you would like in her tomb. http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=845307&st=0 is the link to the thread.

There is also another WiP thread that is being made into a guestbook. This will contain the names of anyone who wishes to pay their respects to LD/Q along with a statement of their choice. If you wish to sign up then go http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=845334&st=0&gopid=12302944&#entry12302944 and leave your name and your last words to her.

I'm truly shocked and much saddened to hear this. She was a great modder and moderator - especially the latter, considering what a thankless task it so often is. She was forever defending the comments sections from trolls and spammers, which might not seem like much, but when you consider how deeply stupid and unfair comments can hurt and discourage modders, her work was genuinely vital to the health and flourishing of the community.

She'll be much missed.

Since my thread ought to be locked, I'll echo my sentiments here.

As Quatloos, she always offered a very fair and thorough critique; I think it's fair to say that a lot of mods owe their download counts to her reviews. In this capacity she will be sorely missed.

As Lord Devil, she worked hard to ensure that politeness and fairness reigned as much as possible in the comments system. It was an thankless job, one for which she often was criticized for. But it was something that needed to be done, and she did it well. Lord Devil was one of the first names I recognized in the Morrowind community, and one that leaves some shoes that will never quite be filled.

Please rest in peace and God bless Lord Devil.

I knew Quatloos was Lord Devil/Tribune, but I never knew that she was a woman, as Tribune (as I best knew her) she presented herself as a man.

Regardless, Tribune had a great mix of wit and wisdom as well as a 'cut the bs' atitude that I greatly respected. Even though I haven't had any contact with her for a while, she will be missed, I'll have to post this on a forum that she used to be co-admin of.

I posted this on TESNexus as well so that they may pay respects to her as well. Since she was a modder the article shouldnt pose a problem...

This is sad indeed :(

To echo Fliggerty, Lord Devil and Quatloos have always been names that i recognise and associate with the morrowind modding world.

Its a great loss to the community, R.I.P Lord Devil

I am up for building a tomb and urn in Lord Devils Memory if anyone wants to help?

I Wonder if it would be Possible to make this into a community-wide project. maybe make into a grand abode for her ghost. Then anyone who is interested can pay their respects by helping make it, and for those of us who can't mod...maybe they could help some other way? IDK.

This is indeed a loss of a friend. :(
Never again will we be able to read an honest view of a mod from Quatloos, or have order restored by the hands of Lord Devil.
Rest in peace Lord Devil. You will always be missed and never forgotten.

That would be a good idea :)

It would have to stick with morrowind style ancestral tombs.....but all done up and grand like??

I am with all of you. I cannot believe Lord Devil will not be with us anymore. My deepest sympathies go out to her friends and family. Her passing will surely leave a hole in the PES community that will take some time to mend.

I also agree with the idea of a MW tomb in her honor. And it should be guarded with the strongest of sacred honor guards........lest anyone who dares disturb her place of rest be judged and dealt with. :obliviongate:

I dunno. Almost the exact thing was discussed way back when Grumpy left us.

Ontopic:

It's sad, she was definitely loved by the community and I think she knew that and I'm very thankful to have had such a splendrous person working at summit and later planet elderscrolls.

off topic slightly. the WiP thread for the tomb is up if y'all wanna sign up and pay respects by helping mod the tomb.

She was a dear friend to us all. May her soul live untortured by the demons and watch over us all.

I noticed I never downloaded http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3734. Well, it looks great anyway, so I downloaded and rated it.

You can all do the same, if you haven't already - that superb housing mod is only a few ratings (and downloads) away from HOF. Hommage can be paid in many ways...
