Lost Contact

Post » Fri Nov 26, 2010 10:20 pm

The Irish Federation Army has risen in southern Ireland after militia members found a pre-war military supply. From 2178 and on, the Irish Federation Army has been keeping the peace in southern Ireland and liberating towns from mutants and Ghouls. Their military consists of only two divisions - Infantry and Special Forces. So far, there have been no wars, no major issues, basically, everything has been running along smoothly.

The main way the Irish Federation Army gains intelligence is through what they always call 'Contacts'. The Contacts scout out areas nearby and feed information to the IFA. Often, officials from the IFA have to meet with Contacts to discuss information. The locations of Contacts aren't always near military areas, and sometimes in the countryside. Contacts also often live in huge stone castles or mansions from long before the bombs fell, which are often massive structures with intricate designs.

When a Contact doesn't respond to a message, the IFA sends small squads to the homes of the Contacts. Normally, all they have to do is let the Contacts know that they need to respond. The squads are normally infantry with a few Special Forces members. Soldiers are sent because sometimes there is danger, so they are equipped with standard rifles and sidearms. Because an official must meet with the Contact, the area must be safe(another reason they send squads first). Normally, the weapons aren't needed. But sometimes, there are complications.

The latest Contact is Fredrick McDonald, but he has not responded from a message. This is a struggle because he lives in an area called Kimallock, in between the two major cities of Limerick and Cork. He lives in a castle deep in the wilderness, and the castle is one of the largest in southern Ireland. Local lore says that his castle was a prison before, and has a very large underground dungeon. This makes things much more complicated, but the idea is that the Contact didn't get the message. Unfortunately this is not the case.

Things have been lurking around in the deep, large, damp dungeons for years, but were never released because the dungeon was never opened. The Contact had opened the dungeon and released what was inside, and his entire family is at risk. The IFA does not know any of this, though, and sends a squad to investigate the castle. The members of the squad are about to go through hell and back, if they can survive it.

This is where you come in. You are a member of the squad sent to investigate the castle, but you will encounter beasts mutated by radiation over the years, some things completely unexplainable. Some of Fredrick's family members have gone insane and will be completely hostile, and there are at least fifty people living in the castle. You will be equipped with only an assault rifle, 9mm pistol, and a knife to defend yourself. You will also be transported by helicopter, but other than that you have only yourself and your teammates.

The idea is to try to rescue as many people as possible and escape, but how easy or difficult it will be is dependant upon your actions and your attitude about the situation. The only true way to survive is to use teamwork and keep yourself together when you are alone in the dark. Radiation can get so bad in many areas of the dungeon that you will be required to wear a gas mask in order to protect yourself, but everyone is equipped with a gasmask.

Character Types:

Infantry - Equipped with a one-filtered gas mask, standard uniform and vest, and an M1 helmet. MP5 as primary rifle and 9mm Colt sidearm. Basic hand-to-hand combat training. Overall uniform gives excellent protection from sharp objects and harsh weather. Training intensity is at Low to Medium. http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/4593/58704342.png. Automatically starts with a flashlight.

Special Forces - Equipped with a specially engineered gasmask, the visor is red on the outside but provides normal eyesight from the inside. The respirator is thin and located on the inside of the mask rather than the outside, and requires no filters. The uniform is a blue camoflauge, and a vest is placed on top. The helmet is a standard pre-war military helmet. Special Forces soldiers are equipped with a .45 Colt-Manufactured Thompson and a Glock 17 9mm as a sidearm. Overall uniform provides weak protection from heat and sharp objects, but is average in protection from harsh weather and conditions. Standard martial arts training(from pre-war books) Training intensity is at Medium to High. http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/4778/a1aargle.png. Does not start with flashlight.

Rules:

-No godmodding
-No controlling others unless you have permission, they need my permission first
-Injuries are real. Wounds don't heal quickly and you can't run around if your leg is damaged.
-Don't use too much foul language.
-Don't argue with everybody.
-Flashlights are vital. You need batteries because the usage time is limited, but batteries are considered misc items and take up one of five slots. In dark areas you are unable to see without using a flashlight, especially when you are alone.
-Anyone can say what parts of the dungeon are like because there is no specific layout, for instance, if you are alone, you can make up what the surroundings look like.
-Only the RP Leader(me) and Co-Leader are able to control NPCs/Creatures in team situations. If you are alone you may control NPCs/Creatures.
-The Co-Leader is the first person to post a bio other than myself.
-There can only be 3 Special Forces members

Roy held his helmet in his left hand and had his gasmask pulled up onto his forehead. His MP5 was on a strap around his sholder and his pistol held tight in its holster. Only a few yards away was the helicopter, nobody else was there yet. He began running to the helicopter and hopped in when he reached it. The pilot had a large cigar in his mouth and was wearing aviators, and noticed when Roy came in.

"Hey, you all set?" the pilot asked in a heavy accent.

"Yeah, don't ask about the others, I know nothing." Roy said, getting in a seat and strapping himself in. He sat his helmet in his lap and moved the gasmask around on his head. All that was left to do now was to wait for the others. Roy just looked out at the crimson-purple dusk sky.

Shaun counted in his head as the push ups went on and on 56...57...58...59...60...61 after reaching seventy five he decided that was enough. Pulling the slide back on the pistol he checked for blockage's or anything that could cause a jam as well as doing the same with the Thompson. Shaun quickly grabbed the things he needed from his room, Rope, food and water, C4 and detonator and the most important of all the picture of his wife Sarah which he placed carefully in one of his many pockets. On his way out the door he picked up his gas mask and hooked it to his Armour, he hated wearing the thing but it stopped the radiation so he was thankful for that.

Walking across the barracks and then to the helipad he gazed up at the dusk sky. The helicopter was there ready to go, it was quiet around the area most soldiers where most likely out on patrol or in the mess either way it was quite tranquil. Shaun clambered into the helicopter and dropped into one of the seats, it creaked under the pressure. There was another ad already in the chopper, Shaun patted the pilot on the shoulder and spoke to the other soldier in the chopper in his gruff English accent

"Alright?" Shaun gave a little up wards nod

"Roy wasn't it? i think Ive seen you around before, so nervous?"

Another soldier came into the helicopter and sat in a jump seat. A Special Forces soldier, the blue camoflauge uniform seemed a bit faded. Then he asked if Roy was nervous.

"Yeah, but I don't think anything's going to be wrong. If something's wrong we probably just have to deal with a Super Mutant or two, I don't think it's a big deal. But we should be prepared for the worst." Roy replied. Roy got out his flask from his front shirt pocket and twisted off the cap, then took a deep chug. He let out air and capped the flask, then put it back in the pocket.

Cody spotted the helicopter from outside the small window. He'd already packed his stuff which sat neatly in a corner so Cody grabbed it and walked outside. He saw another figure far in front of him and was worried that he was late. He took a look at his watch and noted he was not late, but just about on time. His new uniform fit snuggly around his body and he could not help but to think why he didn't get one size larger. Cody arrived at the helicopter and took a seat on the far end of the two soldiers already there. He didn't want to talk so he simply took out his MP5 and made sure his red dot sight was ready for use.

Cody didn't know why they were going in so heavily armed, but hoped they would not encounter to much trouble.

Kevin holstered his rifle and stood up, slightly relieved that this mission seemed subtle enough. Past missions taught him to survey the scene before making himself known. He silently removed himself from his temporary den and lightly jogged over to the helicopter.

"Morning fellas, I don't know if you guys know but my name is Kevin Wallace, Sergeant First Class. Nice to make y'all' acquaintance." Kevin flashed his signature smile. The small crowd nodded in recognition as he climbed onto the chopper and into the farthest back seat. This way he could easily survey all the passengers. After all, the men closest to you were the ones you needed to watch out for...

"huh a couple of mutants? next time they say a mission is low risk consider it high risk after all what soldier wants to go into a mission knowing its high risk, so they'll tell ya its low risk to keep morale up" Shaun observed as a couple of other men joined them in the helicopter

"I'm Special Force's Sergeant Shaun Bines by the way" he said to Roy. One of the new men introduced himself as Kevin, Shaun smiled to himself thinking 'Rupert'.

"Hey kid, you alright down there?" he said to another soldier fiddling with the red dot sight on his MP5

Cody looked up at the man that spoke to him. "Yes I'm fine, just a little nervous. They didn't give us much intel on this mission. Not as much as I would like to feel comfortable anyway." Cody set his MP5 down and listened to the other men.

More people were coming. For once, not everybody was late for a Contract mission. Most of the time nobody wanted to show up on time for a minor mission. Roy unstrapped himself and got up, and went over to the pilot.

"How much fuel does this thing have left?" Roy asked.

"About three-fourths of the tank is full. We won't be going to fast, though. The old bird has lost some parts recently, and is damaged. We don't have the money or supplies to fix it." the pilot explained, ending with a sigh.

"How long do you think it will take to get there?" Roy questioned.

"I'll say about ten to fifteen minutes. It's much faster than using a truck." Roy nodded and sat back down into the jump seat, but didn't strap himself in. He looked at Shaun and shook his head.

"Well, Sergeant Bines.. What can I say? We'll be here for a while. I think my legs are going to go numb sitting in one position with all this equipment."

"Hey whats-your-name, is that safety on?" Kevin said playfully, knowing he would check it just to make sure. He honestly did think it was on, but it was fun to mess around with people every once in a while. Another thing he's learned from past mission, nobody likes a tight-ass.

EDIT: Kevin surveyed the room. So far there were three people ,minus the pilot. He's already got his joke in on the laser guy, new there were two more victims. Might as well have fun while I'm getting there he thought.

"Nice to meet you Cody." Kevin held out a hand, at first Cody just stared at it at first, then he shook it. It was a firm grip.

"You can tell a lot by a man's handshake," He said. "I can tell you ain't no [censored], and that's good enough for me."

Jack Shepard

I looked up at the sky as exited the barracks, the crimson-purple sky was wonderful. The beauty of nature was unrivaled by any creation of man, and despite their attempts to destroy it, it never faded. I took a deep breath, taking in the noise and smells. There was a nice breeze, and though usually the weather was scorching, it was quite pleasant today.

I noted this and filed it away to remember at a later date, for now I needed to focus on the mission, no need for distraction. All my gear was ready to go, despite my best efforts my weapons and uniform always looked a little bit worn.

But nothing to worry about, focus on the mission. I made my way to the helicopter, going through the possible scenarios. If it was super mutants, they were more than likely dead. I climbed aboard the helicopter, they always made me uneasy, but I never let it show on my face.

I sat down next to the man in the back, I checked around, we were still missing some people. It was alright though, I noticed that two other special forces members were there. They were familiar, but I refused to let my memories surface. If I wanted to complete the mission in a worst case scenario, it would best if I had not attachments to my squad mates. That could lead to stupid choices.

((I'm the highest rank, so I guess I will introduce myself as the leader of the squad.))

John walked into the courtyard, the cold mountain air hitting his face like a brick wall. John walked out towards the ready chopper, his squad already prepped to go. With his rifle strapped to his back, he leaned in, addressing his squad.

"Good morning soldiers!" He said as he stepped inside the chopper. "My name is Captain John Marino, and I will be your tour guide today." John nodded in the direction of his Special Forces soldiers. "Here are the rules: rule number 1, don't piss me off. Rule number 2, don't bother me. And rule number 3, I'm in charge, are we understood Infantrymen!" John laughed and sat down in his seat, next to the pilot.

"Let's get this show on the road! Who are we still waiting for?"

(OOC:) We have a new character:

Mr. Smiley Smile

Name: Seamus O'Reilly

Ethnicity: Bloody Irish

six: Male

Age: 29

Appearance: Medium-length brown hair, green eyes, relatively handsome. Scruffy beard. Seamus is a rather small man, this comes in handy as it allows him to sneak about more easily and fit into areas others cannot. This tends to get him pretty dirty but he cleans up when he can.

Height/Weight: 5' 7", 173 pounds

Uniform Decals: None

Weapon Decals: He scratched a four leaf clover into his pistol's grip.

Soldier Type: Infantry - Demolition

Rank: Private

Misc Items: Canteen, spare batteries, C4, more C4, and a lockpicking kit.

Personality: Seamus has decided that he is going to get all that he can out of this life. He will not arrive to the pearly gates clean shaven, without scars, and reclining comfortably. He imagines himself sliding sideways into the gates, lacerated and perhaps smoking. Given this theory on life, it should not come as a surprise that he is given to certain proclivities. Booze, gambling, and women. Often in the same night and in that particular order.

History: Seamus decided that life as a trader was doing him no good. Being his own boss had a tendency to get him into trouble. If the work day doesn't start until you say it does why not go out tonight? He joined with the IFA to get his life in order. He may well have been put into demolitions in an attempt to get rid of him, hazards of the job and whatnot, but he showed real promise in using military grade or fabricated explosives. Having just recently developed his shooting enough to make it into a truly big mission this will be a test. Pass and perhaps graduate from the lowly ranking of private, fail and well if you fail in demolitions that's pretty much the end of you isn't it.

Skills: Sneak, Explosives, Small Guns (not good at range but pretty good if used in conjunction with sneaking)

Attributes: High Agility and High Luck (he's Irish)

"If I'm not mistaken, sir, we are still waiting on Corporal McCarthy and an FNG named Iain Scott." Roy responded to the captain. "I don't understand, why would they send an FNG on a Contact mission? Shouldn't he be on patrol around the base?" Almost everybody was here now, everybody was exchanging greetings. Roy could only hope they would get serious when they got to the LZ.

Seamus O'Reilly jogs up to the helicopter bleary-eyed. Perhaps celebrating his first major assignment with a spirited round of drinking hadn't been the best of plans. It was a good thing Mary McGregor had called him this morning asking who Kathleen was. That helicopter was looking mighty inviting.

He brushes his hair out of his eyes and runs his hands along the sides of his jaw. Stubble has grown into a scruffy beard. As he gets close enough to the helicopter to make out the figures within it he does a quick pat down of his uniform. Canteen on his right thigh and spare batteries on his left. A generous helping of C4 in his pockets and a lockpicking kit near his briast. He feels about his neck, gas mask still tethered. He feels about his left hip, flashlight still holstered and pistol on his right. By some miracle he has been able to pull it off, one last night of debauchery before things get serious. Cheers.

Close enough now that the other soldiers can see him a switch flips in his mind. It's business time. He sits beside the men and nods in acknowledgment. One of the lower ranking members of this unit he manages to keep his mouth shut, though just barely.

Roy could see another person coming to the helicopter, but wasn't McCarthy or Scott. It seemed that this new addition was added to the squad at the last minute. He was short and had a beard, but barely shorter than Roy.

"Hey you! What's your name, soldier? Make room, men. New guy here." Roy said to the new man and then the rest of the squad.

Kevin looked out the helicopter to see another soldier, ambling on over to their little slice of metal. Judging by his behavior, he either was a rookie, or had a hell of a night. As he he pulled himself in I wondered if it was the last person. Then I quickly recalled the brief discussion between the pilot and a soldier. There's one more left then we're outta here, fine I
ll wait.

He looked at the guy with the messed up eyebrow, then came up with an idea to relieve him of his boredom. I stashed a deck of cards in my toolbox, might as well spice this ride up before we lift off.

"Hey you, eyebrows, wanna play cards?"

((OOC: The people we're waiting on haven't shown up and it's been an hour. Sorry, gonna have to move on until they do show up.))

After a long while, Corporal McCarthy and the FNG appeared to be running toward the helicopter, knowing they were late. They jumped inside the helicopter, after a long run from the barracks. They buckled up and everyone was set.

"Alright, women, we're taking off! Don't be an idiot or you could fall off and die!" the pilot shouted, starting the engines.

The helicopter began rising above the ground higher and higher, and finally began moving north-east. Countryside and dead forests passed by, as well as things from patrols to wasters. The sun finally rose above the horizon and turned the sky pale blue-white. All that was left to do was to wait until they got to the castle.

" Anyone know about our dropzone?, hear its near LImerick me old killing ground"

Euan had been late but it was worth it he had won that game of cards and was $50 richer. Three spec ops he didn't need to be told to realize that this wasn't 'low priority' as the colonel had said. Never mind he thought with his lucky hatchet he would be fine.

OOC: I'm from a different timezone, whereas all of you are likely to be in the same one. Try not to go too much into the story without me please. (I know you haven't)

Ten minutes ago

Iain would have been on the helicopter on time, but in the barracks the soldiers weren't so kind to him. For years they had bullied him, and that now he was finally on a mission they were quite annoyed. As Iain walked out from the barracks he was blocked by three of the soldiers, they tackled him to the ground. All three of them gave him a punch: one on the jaw, one on the lip, and one on the eye.

"Take that for good luck mate" they laughed.

Picking up his things Iain quietly left, nearly in tears. His right eye made things appear wonky, some skin was ripped in his lip and his jaw was hurting. Nobody deserved to start a mission like this, the least of all a Recruit.

Quickly Iain ran to the chopper and hopped aboard, he hid his face so the others couldn't see his wounds. Nobody introduced themselves, nobody had to, he was a recruit, and they were higher ranks. So Iain kept his mouth shut and stared outside the helicopter, watching the countryside pass by.

Low risk mission... If it was high risk then Iain would know what to expect. But for a low risk mission, anything could happen....

Kevin picked up his cards and stashed them back into his toolbox. Those fellas can play a damn good game of cards he thought, slightly frustrated that his wallet was somewhat emptier. All in all though it was a fun, easygoing game. Yeah, he lost 50 bucks but he didn't have to shoot anybody. He was relieved that the bird had finally got off the ground would was headed to the castle.

30 minutes later

As he looked out into the vast world of char and ash, he thought he could spot a dash of ivory clad bricks in the distance. From what he could see it was beautiful. If the mission is as 'low risk' as they say it is, then hopefully It'll stay that way.

After what seemed like hours, the castle appeared behind a large section of dead, charred trees. It was huge and very old, but the beauty didn't go away. Roy shuffled in his seat and prepared to land. The helicopter hovered above the ground only about fifty yards from the castle, and lowered. The pilot flipped a switch that turned on a light in the helicopter, it started as red. When the helicopter touched the ground, the light almost immediately switched to green.

"Alright, boys, everyone out! Rendezvous here when you are finished, you'll have to radio-in to the helicopter's channel. See you then!" the pilot shouted, and with that, Roy unbuckled and got out of his seat.

Roy pulled down his gas mask and then put on his helmet, as well as readying his gun. He hopped out of the side of the helicopter, with all the brown and green grass and weeds blowing back from the helicopter's spinning rotors. Roy went back to the helicopter and grabbed a green flag from under one of the seats. He walked back and pushed it into the dirt, marking the landing zone. Roy stood by the flag and waited.
