Lost Spires 2 (sort of) Mod

Post » Sat Feb 15, 2014 4:34 pm

I recently discovered that I can use lost spires assets. Though it would be nice if the person who made the mod would come and post here b/c i have a few questions. There hasn't been any seriious objections from the fine people at TESA, so I will be moving ahead with this project.

I originally aimed at adding over a dozen or so quests to the mages guild. But there are some other mods that make the mages guild much better and so i began secretly working the mod towards a Detective mod. There are some limitations to the detecitve angle, but this mod will be including alot of those elements. So if you wanted some mysteries to solve, maybe some murders as well, then maybe you'll look forward to this.

Then, like i said, I discovered lost spires was open source for modders. Barring a few things due to it being based on Oblivion. and since all attempts to reach the person have failed, i've decided to bring the idea forward to gauge the response.

I have crudely scribbled in plans for the archeology guild to resurface, or rather show up in skyrim. The concern i have is whether I should really attempt a sequel of sorts. Obviously my plans don't include a full on sequel, but I do want to add it in as a substantial part of the story. If you played lost spires, you can see where i'm going with this.

So should i do this? Is it morally unjustitified? Should i stay away from the archeology guild? should i even use these assets at all?

If you have an opinion either way, i'd like to hear it. Also, if there aren't stark condemnations, then i'd like to hear your ideas on what you'd like to see in it, especially to try to keep it in good taste and not be a sheer rip off. Which i'm absolutely not going for.

Also, if anyone wants to help I need:

1. Modeller

2. Texturer

3. Quest Writer (for some side quests)

4. Dialogue writer (for some side quests)

for now.

If i don't go for the Archeology Guild, then i'll be doing something close to it, or rather i had been planning on doing something close to it anyway, but more on the detective side. So let me know what you think.

:D

A "spin-off" could work well, paying homage to the original - and I'm very interested to see what your plans are so far.

I'd be happy to help out with dialogue for quests.

Building a faction myself, along with lots of different systems for stats and other stuff, I'd be happy to offer help and advice and stuff if ever you need it :)

I was going to do this last year but run into a lot of problems importing his assests through blender(and later 3DS Max). They appear extremely large in the viewports. And of course you need to redo all the collision, as oblivion-esque collision isn't going to carry over. The best I did was remake his chests, but I was unable to remake his spires. No idea what modifier in MAX he used to create those.

Yes Liquidgraph allows his assests to used, as long as no one RE-RELEASES HIS MOD. I remember that very vividly. So you can remake the dungeons, or new ones or whatever, but you can't bring the quest over. Any questions you have may or may not be answered by reading his Post-Mortem included at his site. http://www.lostspires.com/pages/downloads.htm

Edit: You don't need a texturer or modeler(are you rusty?), unless you plan on creating new stuff to go with it. The textures, models, normals, UVs for the assets are all intact and will carry over fine. Although you may need to darken the textures, because of how Skyrim's lighting system likes to make things brighter than they intend to be.

I do encourage you to go through with this. I certainly don't wont Lost Spires to be forgotten.
