A lot of bugs - is there a fix?

On Xbox 360, I've heard some people "clearing the cache" to fix some gameplay issues.

Game is installed on the HD, I only have one save file, and none of the DLC.

Bugs I've been experiencing:

  • Follower will randomly disappear, then re-appear at the next loading point
  • Switching weapons/spells takes about 6 seconds
  • Battle music doesn't start until about 20 seconds into a confrontation instead of right away
  • Sometimes enemy AI is dumb - they'll stare at me while I fill them with arrows, then run and flee without me even casting a Fear spell
  • Also sometimes my atronachs AI is also dumb - they'll stand on the other side of the door way with a fireball prepped, but won't move into the open to make their attack hit
  • Sometimes my very first arrow shot in an encounter is buggy - I'll see my bow release and then my hands lower it, and then 1-2 seconds later the arrow flies

Nothing game breaking here, but it is getting a little annoying, especially taking so long to switch weapons! Any way I can remedy this?

Are you saving over that one save file, because if you are it will cause you these types of problems. Best to start a new save each time and delete the old ones every few hours or so.

Yes I have been alternating between two save files (in case I make mistakes). I will start the new save method and see if that helps. Thanks!

Yes, you should always make a new save instead of overriding it.

I am aware of and practice every maintenance routine that is mostly required to play Skyrim on Xbox but I actually never knew about or considered always creating a new save file instead of saving over the old one, I always just have one save-file that I save over and over.... But, I have never had problems either. Well, actually, maybe I have... you can never really know for sure where problems that you do experience actually stem from I guess...

I will start doing this beginning with the next time I log on though, for sure.

I imagine this thread will get moved to the 360 forums BTW.

I don't believe that I will ever understand how people can play a TES game without having multiple saves. Regardless of the platform you are playing it on the minimum amount of saves to rotate through should be a half dozen. I also agree that deleting the last save on the list and replacing it with a fresh save is generally a good idea. When it's done right that will cover a few hours of gameplay that you can backtrack through without too much effort or lost time.

Yeah, ever since I hit a bad glitch back on Oblivion I've been keeping 2-3 save files, in case I mess up or the game corrupts my save file. Never made new ones though - hopefully that helps!

All of those are normal. You have lag, I have a theory that all those lag issues are sound related. Most of those happen when running around outside. Making a new save won't make a difference.
