Lots of crashes, unoptimized load order?

Post » Tue Aug 02, 2011 5:45 am

Recently, my game has gotten rather crash happy and I can't shake the feeling that it might be because of a unoptimized load order or obsolete mods due to the new patch.

I should stress that with this current load order, the game DOES work but it works extremely sluggishly and crashes a lot. Infact, now I can't go 5 minutes without a CTD.

So without further adieu:

This load order is BOSS'd (with a few exceptions) and bashed. Wyre Flash gives me some mods that are yellow in color.

I also run with Ojo Bueno, Textures In Time, Detailed Normals and NV Texture Recreation. All this with the FNV4GB Loader, NVSEv2 Beta 9 and NVSR (which does nothing as of the newest patch).

Also, I should mention that it is impossible for me to quit normally even before it got crash happy. I've always had to quit through the task manager.

Questions? Comments? Suggestions? I'll take it all.

I'd say that unless you're using HQ Ojo Bueno textures - contrary to UHQ - you problem may lie solely in this mod. I ran a pretty hefty load order myself (about 50 mods, excluding some texture replacers) along with UHQ Ojo Bueno textures, and while I was able to play a bit after I just started a new character, the game quickly became CTD prone, up until the point when I couldn't load a savegame, it crashed immediately. I tried stripping the game down to just Ojo Bueno textures, but the problem remained. Not surprisingly, the game had been gulping down ~1.5 GB of ram and choking to death, with FNV4GB doing absolutely nothing to prevent that.

When I installed the Poco Bueno pack, the game ran perfectly fine.

It's a shame, really. My PC can handle everything that Ojo Bueno might throw at it (i5-2500k, GTX 580, 4 GB RAM, Windows 7 x64) and at its best those textures are a pure wonder, but the game itself imminently fails me. I may poke around Nexus comment section of the mod, as some people claimed to be playing with UHQ textures crash-free. For the time being, I suggest you try Poco Bueno. Better yet, post your system specs. It's possible that you shouldn't be so unrestricted with various texture mods.

System specs are:

GTX 560 Ti
6GB of RAM
Win 7 x-64
I7 920

And yeah, I'm using UHQ textures.

So, you have me beat and you still have problems.

Oh gamebyro can you do anything right. like maybe not having a memory cap or having a 64-bit exe?

The PN/WMX compatibility patch should come after WMX, not PN, Check your readme notes for that patch. Seems to be a common error, just thought I'd point that out.
