Loud and Clear quest - safe key and safe contents missing

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 2:22 pm

Hi.

Before everyone jumps in, no this isn't the bug a lot of people have had, where you can't complete the Thieves Guild Loud and Clear quest right at the end.

The one I'm encountering is very odd, and I've done heaps of searching, but I seem to be the only one!

When I get to Goldenglow and meet/pickpocket/kill Aringoth, the safe key isn't in his inventory, but there is a cellar key. Strange, but not a big deal as I can pick the lock to the safe downstairs. But when I do that, there's only gold in there, not the other bit that is needed for the quest.

The weird thing is that the quest arrows are pointing to Aringoth and the safe, but the items are not there, thus I can't complete the quest.

I've tried earlier saves, bringing/not bringing a companion, going/not going through the optional sewer, setting/not setting the beehives on fire first.

I have done Mjoll the Lioness' quest to return her sword. As she doesn't like the Thieves Guild, does that mean I can't do their quests?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, other than restart from the very beginning! :)

Thanks.

I have a feeling this isn't a problem with just this quest. I'm currently doing another quest, and I'm supposed to retrieve something from a person's body, but it's not there, even though the quest marker points there. Grrrr....

SOLVED!

The problem was me trying to be tricky with a Cidhna Mine quest and killing Madanach at a particular time. I wasn't able to complete this quest because of that, and so it affected every other quest after that, that required a quest item to be picked up from a body or a container.

Tried loading an old save, finished the Cidhna Mine quest properly, and all is good now.

Now why would you post the same exact problem with the same solution over 5 days ago on another site. You say everything the exact same. An easy google search and it pops up. I was actually trying to help you when I stumbled across your previous post. The thing I don't get is why?

Check it out. Huh?

Something is fishy here and it's not a fishy stick. One thing you need to know is this community is pretty tight and nothing can get past anyone. UESP is another site alot of us use.

@Saron
Hope everyone sees this. Thats exactly the way to fix 90% of quest issues if you jump on them when they happen. Some people are stubborn in thinking that, whatever is going wrong is the only things and just continue to play the game which is the exact way to ruin your save and get to a point where you just can't play anymore. Anyway, I just wanted to say this in regards to your post for the benifit or many. On ya for being smart enough to continue onwards and not pushing a bad situation.

I just saw METALPUNKS link and I am also wondering why you did this, but - if its sincere then I stand by what I said.

@METALPUNK
Anything wrong with being so excited with making something work that so many people might have a problem with that you want to spread it? I know it looks suspicious but to what extent really? its not like its harming anyone, not everyone has the confidence to go for gold, some people do use foreplay ya know.

Ya I get that and I've found solutions before and posted the solution on a few different sites. The only thing different is I usually just come out say hey I found a solution here it is. I've never posted my problem then made nice people like me take time out of their night to search the web for answer to help me even though I knew the answer the entire time.

I'm fine now but lastnight I'll admit I was a little weird because I took the time to help him and saw his previous post. It's no biggie just a little odd. Also I agree with the both of you. Never stop mid quest, it's bound to screw up if you do.
