No Love For The Imperials?

Post » Fri Sep 16, 2011 3:53 pm

You may have a point. I couldnt deny that they look a little mestizo, but they definately look mediterranean. Greek, Roman, Spanish, Pheonecian, whathave you. Also, they definately lack the indigenous American appearance that would aid your mestizo theory.

The darker skin tone thing is new right? I'm not just imagining that?

It's great that there is a Roman culture inspired race.

I'll use one and name him Caesar, or maybe Alexander (whatever, Macedonian blah blah blah I don't care). They really went all out on the Roman influence this time. The aquiline noses, the dark skin, the hair types, the facial structure. I look forward to playing as one of these interesting conquerors later down the line.

It's a shame that most of the Races are so well done this time around. I won't have time to play all of them. :(

Sad how Bethesda has to make an Elder Scrolls equivalent for every Human race on the planet(Despite some sharing multiple race and culture origins). Wood elves appear Chinese, Orcs are Aboriginals, etc. A lame marketing strategy.

This comment you made makes even less sense. Orcs look absolutely nothing like australian aboriginals (if thats the continent you are reffereing to). Woodelves have a hint of asiatic spice, but to call them Chinese? And I suppose the altmer look fermiliar too?

@Dalamer

Yes, it appears so, though they still tried to give that distinction in oblivion if you compare them with bretons or nords.

Actually upon looking at them again. I would say there is very little mestizo in them. Most mexicans I know dont look anything like that, and I know a lot of mexicans (granted, there are other mestizos, but). I do however know a few greeks that could easily resemble them.

Look at the eyes(Most revealing), darker skin tones, and some of the facial features. Give preset #2 a sombrero...

Somewhat related, did anyone notice the President of the United states in the Altmer presets.:facepalm:

Skyrim Imperials look like my ancestors. I'd rather stay as far away as possible from them, thanks. >.<

Do we really have to make a thread about how no one loves every single race.

Really?

I like Imperials but I like to play my warrior as an anti caster as well so I go with a Breton who is able to resist spells. Although you and the responses in this thread got me wanting to try one.

Why not? They oh-so-obviously did this to appeal to America's growing Hispanic population. In the Imperial presets, you can see Johnny Depp(Part Cherokee), "Machete"(Dammy Trejo), etc.

Imperials used to be Venice+Rome in a jungle, covered in tattoos. And rice.

Giving them darker skin was something I liked from Oblivion.

You assume a lot about things just from looking at presets. Imperials are known for being a mixture rather than whatever you expected them to be.

Normally I play as a Breton... but really the only 2 races I almost never play as in TES games are Orc and Redguard. Nothing against Imperials, i'll likely play as one for Skyrim at some point.

As much as I love the Greeks/Romans, the Imperials have never really struck me as such. Not sure, why, they just have never really had a lot to stand out from the others, save having such a large empire.

Imperials are pretty much all i play as until the excellent models come up with somthing. I don't really like the idea of being a non-Human or non-Human like person, i feel too little connection with them unless i am them.

I figure they will have to change their race perks this time, since they lost a couple of those. So depending on what they give them I may give them a shot.

I like the new art direction for Imperials. Cyrodiil is supposed to be warm and rainforesty though, and I guess it helps distinguish the Nords and Bretons. I didn't like how "obviously Roman empire" their faces were in TES3. Then agaaaain, I could say the same for every other race's resemblance to RL and famous fiction.

I noticed that not much people play/fancy imperials.. why?

Interestingly, they evolved into "heavy warriors" in Oblivion. In Morrowind, they were called "light infantry," which apparently was their only saving grace/explanation for taking over Tamriel--vast zerg rushes supported by rampant babymaking. In-game, their skills made them the perfect Agents and Rogues. Political sabotage and merchant manhandling! House Hlaalu forever, baby.

I'd play Imperials first; gameplay-wise I think there is little sense to have a race with no combat skills compared to the other nine, but I do like the increased disposition with other npcs. It's like a give-and-take easy mode. Less combat, but what little loot you do win brings more cash. Or something silly.

Humans have been cliched to a painful death in fantasy games but people like them for some reason, like in Dragon Age Origins i think 65-70% of players chose to be a human for some reason. Why? Is it because you are a human? I can't say I hate being a human but it really is nice to have a chance to play something else.

They really need to bring back the light armor perk. Imperials and heavy armor don't mix.

I always play a few Imperials, my Imperial crusader is my "me" game where I just play and make the choices I'd make in that situation rather than RP a certain character. I also liked the Empire a lot in the previous games, they did a good job managing the provinces and keeping order. Hopefully the Medes will respect that and carry on the tradition.

Oh and I'm Cuban/American(German/Polish) since we're all stating our ethnicities :D
