No Love for the Redguards?

Post » Thu Jul 28, 2011 7:43 am

maybe I'll play as a redguard when the elder scrolls go to hammerfell?.

I have the slightest inkling we will never see a game based entirely on Hammerfell. Well, that is if the lore is adhered to.

I attribute that to the fact that the only thing that sets them apart from Nords and Imperials is this: They're black. Not much else about them that's unique besides their lore, which doesn't interest me all that much.

I never play a character that is strictly a warrior, so I guess that's why I cant get behind Redguards. I have a hard time playing a character who uses no magic at all, not that its impossible to play a Redguard who does use magic, it just seems weird to play one that does.

Also, I REALLY don't like http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Neville He left a bad taste in my mouth against all Redguards.

I don't think Redguards have to be black. They ended up being my favorite race in Oblivion and I probably made four different Redguard characters and I was able to change them all to white-skinned. Maybe the NPC Redguards are always black and I never noticed...

Well actually I think Bosmers are talked about even less than Redguards. If you are trying to infer that no one likes them because they are black that would be wrong.

Redguards rock! I guess the nords get all the love now.

I would love to be able to see a Redgaurd navel fleet someday, maybe in another 5 years in hammerfell

in order for me to roleplay the character has to resemble what i am used to. For me that is being white. I wish I could get past that because redguards are completely badass warriors

You do realise Vsions confirmed that http://0.tqn.com/d/compactiongames/1/0/t/r/1/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-scr06.jpg is a Redguard? The shot is from before they had the darker skin tones perfected.

Never played a redguard in the standard TES games. 1) Pure warriors are my least favorite archetype which redguards are best suited. 2) They are just humans.... which drops them down on my playlist along with imperials, bretons, and nords.

I loved Redguard, the game, but from a roleplaying perspective, I don't particularly care for warriors or humans.

What happened to hammerfell in Lore that would keep us from getting a game in hammerfell? Please explain... I'd rather not go on a pointless search for hours trying to find the answer to this in the Lore section of the forum.

Only reasons I dislike threads and post about "No love for redguards." is it usually starts an even bigger issue, on the internet that is. Maybe this will correct me.

My first character will be a redguard, one whose civil yet will whoop dat azz if need be, I already know he'll be misunderstood by as his actions and speech, but eh he'll be an successful heroic dragonborn nonetheless.

Also as some one stated above, I'm sure people want to roleplay a race that resembles them, it's why I'm choosing a redguard luckily they are not a mage orientated race.

I don't play redguards because I like playing mages, conjurers in particular. Not only do they not make great mages, but they don't like my favorite magics.

I was surprised at their interesting background :)

While i have tried every single race except for Redguards and Orcs, i prefer to play as human males and when i do that, it's important that the character resemble myself atleast a little. He doesn't have to have the same eye or hair color etc but it's important that he is white. It has just always felt wrong to me when playing as something else. It feels, i don't know... unnatural? i don't connect with the character the same way. I know that sounds more than a little strange, especialy when i don't mind playing as a woman from time to time but when i do that, the experience is a little different. I relate better to male characters and play as female characters when i want to try something completely different. Ofcause i could always play as a female Redguard, i might even do it at some point. I think this is the reason most people prefer the other races, because most of the fanbasse is white and people (no matter their race) prefer to play as someone similar to themself. That said, i would love to see a game in Hammerfell.

Uh, yeah. That kind of breaks Tamriel race laws, the child inherits the mother's race so no mixed-race Nord for you!

I love redguards personally. My Redguard diplo-battle-mage in Morrowind was my favorite. I thought this would give me the right to make a redguard joke, cuz wez so tight, here on the forum. It involved a bucket and well.... anyways i was suspended and heavily warned. This i found this to be a bit of reverse racism due to the fact that i run across jokes about argonians, fat stupid americans, adoring fans, and tons others all the time and no one seems to care. I bet if a redguard would be the last person they tell there's no smoking on the stilt riders. Oh well Mer Pride!

It just doesnt seem like a sound idea from a marketing standpoint. Consider the fact that Redguards are always in the bottom 3 most liked races in the polls on these forums and also dont forget how terribly Redguard did from a financial standpoint. Even in this thread you can already see that many gamers might feel alienated playing as a Redguard. Now imagine how they would feel being surrounded by them. Its not too hard to tell how this could deter certain players. There are very few games where the majority of inhabitants are black looking. I can only think of a few and even in those games the results were not flattering (GTA SA, RE5).

Unless Im mistaken Hammerfell is occupied largely by Redguards... I just dont see BGS overlooking all these issues and basing a true TES sequel in a place like Hammerfell. Perhaps Hammerfell could be combined with another province or maybe many members of different races could be implemented?

Really? :teehee:

haha its surprising how much the devs are willing to discuss when you strike up a conversation

I'm not sure it's that people don't like them, I think it's just that they're not a lot of people's favourite race. I love Redguards (well, I love every race), but I don't love them as much as I love Khajiits, Dunmer and Bretons. It seems as if they're just forgotten about and stuck in the middle.

I only like Redguards because they remind me of Africans. I'm sorry, but Africans>Orcs when it comes to melee weapons.
