Update: http://i.imgur.com/EsSTB.jpg Hard to achieve much variety with this head mesh.. but I think a few of these are fine in a pack.

Hmm... It may just be the photos, but I'm not really feeling these faces. They don't seem very Altmer-ish to me.

I'm going to show you a modded Altmer woman head (hopefully you haven't seen it before), and know that my intent behind this is not to make you feel bad, but to show you what I view to be the absolute best direction anyone's ever gone in in terms of making Altmer faces:

Obviously that's not nearly as photo-realistic as your faces (any of them, really), but I think that's part of the reason I like it so much. It's beautiful, yet kind of subtle, and looks very much like something someone would draw or paint. I hope this inspires you to some extent rather than hurts your feelings, because I really like your other heads, particularly the Wood Elves. I use your head packs for a reason, after all. :)

Actually pretty good. I think the hair makes the heads look huge compared to the bodies though.

I absolutely love face #1, it's beautiful and haughty and imperious, everything that a lady Altmer should be.

#2, though... Maybe its just the pigtails, but she looks like a California valley girl.

Hrm. Ok, I will work on it. Thanks for the feedback, both positive and negative. Always appreciated. I've seen that one before, it's one of Westly's. To be honest I try to use those for inspiration, maybe I missed the mark this time. :s

In a few weeks... intelligence reported the sudden appearance of ‘Elves’ – slender golden-haired creatures with mellifluous voices and permafrost in their eyes...

Well I didnt see the picture with pigtails but I really like #2 She looks like a young pretty Mage scholar in her green robe, fitting great in the Morrowind world :D

# 1 however looks to modern to my taste.. hm I think thats the thing with some of these hairstyles.. when I imagine her with some other hair I think she makes a great character

Keep up the good work Meldiocre :)
btw: Do you also make male heads?! :D

I don't make male faces, sadly. I tried it and I'm not great at it. Also, many of Westly's are the same res as mine (1024x1024) so I just feel it would be redundant kind of. Maybe I will try again after this pack, it just hasn't been successful though. ;o I see what you mean about too modern. Maybe with a more Morrowindy hairstyle..

Me too. I really like both of them. The second one looks perfect for a scholar or a less-agressive mage. The only thing I noticed is the very sharp line down the right side of the nose (as we look at her) of the second face, particularly in the first picture; that's just the screenshot, correct?

I'm just diasappointed that I missed the "Altmer as valley girl" pigtails picture...

Haha when I saw your faces I felt inspired to make something again myself :)

btw. that texture is definitely smooth! Maybe that line had something to do with the mapping but to be honest I think its just the form of the model. From some angles some lines look really sharp but I think its perfectly fine this way.

Oh ok, good. That model's nose is SO narrow. I can fix it in max but I lose animations, like we talked about before. :( Oh I forgot to comment in your thread when I looked earlier (had just woke up) I'll do it now.

That's a face from Westly, slightly changed (eye colour), so this exceptional modder is a high measuring ;)

Like I said, I'm a huge Westly fan. I just don't have that kind of artistic talent (like I've also said :P). I'm not an artist or a freehand painter. All I can do is, well, what I can do. I still appreciate the comments it's just there's a line that I can't really cross when it comes to tweaking stuff to suit people's taste.

Just a thought here, since *everyone* makes Altmer in the grim, look-down-your-nose style, I would like to see what could be done to keep the feel of the race, without every single one looking like a school marm. So far I think you're doing a great job, Mel, but I am sensing you're being reined in somewhat. I too am disappointed you yanked the one with the pigtails down so fast after a single comment.

The only criticism I have on the two faces so far is that the one in the mage robe seems, at that angle, to have more rounded cheekbones than I would have expected. More Woodelf and less Altmer. The second is simply a matter of requesting the ear piercings to be optional. Of all the races, the way I see them, Altmer would be the least likely to have piercings or body art. Not to say you shouldn't make them with, only that my preference would be for it to be optional.

Oh, I never really thought of that. That's a good point about piercings. Would be a little more work but um.. I actually do have an idea.. I'll PM you the details in a sec. :D I can work on the cheekbones also.

As for being reined in, yes, I won't lie, I want people to be happy with the finished product. I have no plans in the near future to even play the game, so this is just all for other people, you know? But I'm fond of the way these are turning out, and the one I'm working on now, so I won't change stuff TOOO much.

Yeah, so this was headed to Tonal Architect for longing for something very elusive.

Yup, the plain texture picture doesn't show the line at all. It could just be the lighting in that particular screenshot, or it could be the mesh, OR, it could even be that occasional wierd clipping thing that sometimes happens in game for no real reason, particularly in modded cells. Either way, if you don't see it in game, don't worry about it.

Edit: with the ear piercings, aren't they part of the hair, rather than the faces? I thought they were in all the pictures I've seen of that hairstyle, even when it was on other races.

Part of the hair but I mean I combined the ear/hair/pierce mesh intentionally. I could easily - time consumingly but that's ok! - uncombine.
