I F.U.C.K.I.N.G LOVE EA! <3

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:15 pm

I had tried for months, using programs.. posting topics and asking people but i got no where.

Main specs:

i5-2500 @ 3.7GHz
12GB RAM
Liquid Cooling
Radeon 6770

I was getting 30-35fps maybe dips to 40fps on 1280x720 and i was thinking wtf ? how do i get that fps for that system? did i waste my money?

Then ea helped me and we did a few things, after that i was acheiving an average of 75fps and it went to as high as 120-130fps at 1280x720 :P

Mind this is still only dx9, lowest settings. Because i dont think my card will handle dx11 very well even though it supports it.

BTW, my original RES is 1600x900 but i was getting 25fps when i had the problem so thats why i went down to 1280x720.

So you want to tell us what they told you do to? Thought you had a 5770 though?

Yeah, tell us. If it's a secret, I'll guess: maybe they gave you autoexec.cfg with (some of) these lines:

r_UseEdgeAA = 0
r_PostMSAA = 0
r_SSAO = 0
r_MotionBlur = 0
r_ShadowJittering = 0
g_radialBlur = 0
r_TexMaxAnisotropy = 0
sys_spec_shading = 1
sys_spec_gameeffects = 1
sys_spec_objectdetail = 1
sys_spec_particles = 1
sys_spec_physics = 1
sys_spec_postprocessing = 1
sys_spec_shadows = 1
sys_spec_sound = 1
sys_spec_texture = 1
sys_spec_water = 1

I did have a 5770, but it broke, so they sent a 6770. its exactly the same as 5770 same specs and everything.. only difference is software.

a 5850 = 6850
a 5870 = 6870

so on and so on :)
the 6xxx series is just a rebranded 5xxx series.

They told me to download latest drivers, delete temp files, from windows files, and use proccessor affinity to un select all processors and only leave CPU1 running. :)

Wait a minute. EA told you to limit C2 to one core and that improved FPS??

Where exactly did they tell you to apply the affinity settings? To Crysis2, or some other process?

Should that work on Intel too? I'm gonna try to assign all processes to cpu0 and Crysis2 to cpu1 xD

PS. I tried something similar today and got negative KD in game xD if somebody says I svck at C2, it's your fault! xP

Lol, no not my fault xD
And yes, it should work for intel as i have an i5-2500

Btw, make sure your latest GPU drivers are downloaded. Then try assign C2 to CPU1 ( well thats what i was told because i have a quad core not sure about dual ) using proccesor affinty... (right click on the program in task manager)

DONT forgot to restart your computer.
Also try deleting your temp folders from here:
My computer/Cdriver/Windows/Temp ... delete all. All files in there are the unwanted files so wont make a difference to your computer, it cleans it up a bit.

Unless attention is paid to how a mulithreaded application actually loads the cores, performance can suffer.... My guess is the Crytek gang didn't have a lot of spare time for processor optimization. ;)

Controlling processor affinity can improve performance by reducing the number of cache flushes when process threads move to another processor. If the process is directed to use the same core everytime, performance can be improved due to the ability to re-use the cache.

Still, I wouldn't think this would outweigh the benefit of three other cores! In a simpler case, I've also heard of programs that tend to overload CPU0 benefitting from being assigned to CPU1... I'm going to pay more attention to how C2 is using the cores.

hmm i might try that, i got i5 2500K and latest gpu driver.

interesting, it doesnt run any slower, i still get 70-100fps in MP with FRAPS.

edit: nvm looks like C2 wasn't running with CPU1 only.
you said dont forget to restart the computer, but when you restart the pc it doesn't save the assign C2 to CPU1 setting.

You need to set affinities after restarting (because they go default after restart).

It's probably in this order: 1. install graphics driver, 2. clean Temp folder, 3. restart, 4. run the game, run Task manager, set affinities to cpu1 only. :/

I doubt it works on C2D (maybe only on those monsters i3, i5, i7..) but I'll give it a try today...

I tried it (AMD 720BE.. 3 cores @ 3.5ghz, SLI'd 460's) and got exactly the kind of scaling you would expect.... Running on 1 ,2 or 3 cores I got about 40, 70, 90 fps in MP. It didn't matter which cores I enabled. When I disabled a core, the others maxed out. I also noted that core load is distributed quite evenly. I am convinced though, that this processor is bottlenecking, ie going to a four core would scale up my performance.

Note that I was running DX9-everything-off as I usually do in MP. I forgot to try the DX11 render path. And yes, processor affinity would have to be applied each time after the game loads (unless there's some trick I don't know).

My tests don't really conclude anything, as a any benefit would almost certainly be processor dependent.... But its data.

Am I meant to go through the entire list of processes setting each of their affinities to CPU 0 only? Then set Crysis 2 to CPU 1 ?

That sounds about right.. so how did OP get performance boost(?) by disabling 3 cores on his i5 2500?

Maybe there is some Crysis 2 bug with that certain CPU and EA knows about it (but don't wanna tell public). That probably worked only on Jared's cpu xD
