Loving the game, but missing my freedom

I'll start by saying that this game is living up to my high expectations. I'm having a blast exploring the wasteland again. My biggest complaint so far is how many characters are un-killable (hear me out).

Fallout has always been about making your own story where you have the freedom to make almost any decision, live with the consequences, and shape the world as you go. In New Vegas, when Boon told me to piss off I pulled out my silenced pistol and shot him in the face. That was my decision and as a result I lost out on a companion, some missions, but got a cool red beret and a fancy new sniper rifle.

Fast forward to F4, I created a character, went through the boring prologue, and started my new life as an errand boy. I was getting a little fed up with the beginning to-do list and decided that I'm going to give this crazy old lady her jet and just wander for a bit when she asked me if I could build her a chair. That was my boiling point and I thought "F you, F sanctuary, and F your chair" so I shot her in the face with a shotgun. A bit extreme, i know, but B#### shouldn't have asked for a chair. She dropped to her bum and I walked off feeling a little bad about destroying an old ladies face, but it's the wasteland and B#### shouldn't have asked for a chair. To my surprise, she got back up like nothing happened and asked me for the chair again! Shank shank shank! She falls, shakes it off, and the entire town proceeds to attack me. Problem is, I kept killing everyone and they kept getting back up.

I get that the game branches out from this point and that killing off sanctuary would have left so much out of the game, but that's my choice. That has always been the beauty the fallout series (I came in at F3) if I want to side with the creepy old guy and blow up Megaton, only to throw him off his own tower and claim it for myself that has been the players choice. I played fallout 3 and NV so many times over that on one NV playthrough I just killed everybody (except for No-bark). There was no big siege on the dam and the game was left in this limbo state, but that was the story I created.

I'm really loving this game, but I feel like I'm going through a story that has already been written instead of writing my own.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for my therapist appointment.

Sounds sadistic but I miss the slavers - I remember in Fallout 2 you could join them but it had heavy negative consequences.

Now? Slavery does not even exist, at least not in the commonwealth. I always enjoyed making caps off killing them and freeing slaves.

A nonessential mod will be right around the corner. Then you can slay all until your evil hearts content! ;)
