Low framerate in large interiors

Hi,

I have a reasonably good graphics card for this game but my CPU is terrible. Specifically, an 8800GT and a single-core 1.8ghz Athlon 64. I've gotten pretty used to the severe performance hits from things like nearby actors, but one thing that still bothers me is the huge drop in framerate when I'm in a large, multi-level interior area. If I look at the ground or toward the edge of the area I might get 50+ fps, but if I look in the direction of the rest of the area I'll get around 10 fps. It's most noticeable in office buildings or multi-level facilities like the Anchorage Memorial. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm looking across a large room or my view is completely blocked by a wall, as long as I'm facing toward the majority of the area. It doesn't matter if I'm the only living actor in the area, either.

So since my CPU is the bottleneck, what could it be doing that's so intensive when there are no actors or pathing to process? It doesn't make any sense, and that's why it bothers me. Does anyone know whether this is a problem I can fix?

Thanks
