Low Intelligence dialog

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 6:24 am

Fallout 4 better have 'special' dialog for low intelligence characters where NPC's react and speak to you like you're 'special' and not just you choosing 'special' responses, lol, the com-pu-ter chip!

I have always loved when someone puts insane detail into something almost no one notices.

That would require additional writing and voicing, which Bethesda probably won't do.

If I recall correctly, they did do that for FO3, so I guess they aren't totally above doing it.

As far as I know, they have done it for all FO games to date. Not sure about the spinoff titles, though. FO 1, 2, 3, and NV all have it.

I never tried low intelligence in the others, just 2. I tried it once in 2 because you would have an "intellectual" conversation with that dullard in Klameth.

It is the tiny, subtle details like that in games that truly make them great.

That would make having a voiced PC hilarious.

Be any easy money job for a voice actor. A few grunts and groans and you're set.

Don't forget the occasional screams of "Ice cream!" when asked for passwords.

I am amused at the desire to do a "Lennie Small, of Mice and Men" style playthrough in FO4.

Does a 10 intelligence and a low charisma give you a "Sheldon Cooper, Big Bang Theory" style playthrough?

Only to a very small degree. I think there's like two low intelligence lines in the whole game. New Vegas also did it, but it was at times half-hearted (your dialog changes but theirs doesn't) and still somewhat rare, though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyWypcG8A2U

Aside from that, if rumors about a voiced protagonist are true, then I somehow doubt we'll see much in regards to low intelligence dialog.

It would also require SPECIAL stats who knows if that's even returning...

Taking away SPECIAL would be like removing perks from CoD, there's no reason to trash a feature so concrete to the franchise.

I agree, but I would've say the same thing about adding a voice and it looks like we're getting that.

Which makes me a little sad. I hope Bethesda isn't just taking its first awful steps towards transforming Fallout into a Mass Effect-type RPG that just happens to take place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Ohh-ho...

Spoiler
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i54tXdPUScE

I'm fairly sure that the low intelligence lines were intended mainly for PCs suffering from temporary affected intelligence drug withdrawal.

(As several NPCs cut you right off, and their interactions would be inaccessible; at least without Mentats.)

I would hope that F4 will have low intelligence dialogue, Its always good for a laugh and it shows that they at least partially care about 1. being closer to the original Fallout's (and follow NV's direction) and 2. making Stats/SPECIAL actually do stuff

I do not expect it to happen. I believe they absolutely will not implement that, and for a particularly depressing reason:

Spoiler
It would be seen both internally and externally as insulting to the player to speak down to them and Impugn their intellect [virtually]. I think it would terrify someone there enough to axe any attempt at it.

Especially if they are voicing the main character (like the trailer potentially suggest). The possible outrage at the voice sounding like it's mocking mentally handicapped people is probably reason enough for them for its removal.
