Low Level Dungeons

Post » Fri Jan 21, 2011 11:54 am

Hi everyone, been quite a while since I've logged on, but whatever. I was wondering if you guys could help me find some low level dungeons, I'm level 5 or 6, and I want to find some good dungeons to plunder and level in, so any help?

If you're talking Arena, you have some decent choices. One way is to ask around till you get a quest; once you get one you'll most likely (although not certainly) be sent to a dungeon. It's probably easier, though, to just leave by the city gates and travel till you see an orange dot on your local map; that dot represents a dungeon to explore. Also, if you're outside the city, you can ask folks wandering around where the nearest dungeon is.

If you're talking Daggerfall, you might give Privateer's Hold another go-round. If that doesn't float your boat, there are many quests that will send you to a dungeon as part of the task; again, ask around and you'll get one...or join a guild and the guildmaster will send you off to one soon enough. Unlike Arena, it's kind of hard to find a dungeon in the wilderness just by wandering around.

Daggerfall likes to randomly generate the monsters in dungeons. All the quest dungeons are huge. The crypts are all small and can usually be easily raided for practice. The easiest way to get access to the big ones is to accept quests. The other way is to find maps in the little crypts. Some of the dungeons are easier than others, but it's basically worthless telling you which ones because quests and maps reveal them randomly.

Examples of easy dungeons would be the ones full of spiders or thieves. Hard ones will be the ones with enemies that use a lot of spells (mages and sorcerers were utterly nasty for me at low levels).

If the question was about Arena I have nothing to say. I haven't played it yet.

If I remember correctly, the Daggerfall dungeons are sorted by categories (castle, ruins, laboratory, lair etc.) where in each category falls a different class of monsters. The human enemies are scaled to your level (similar to Oblivion), but since you're level 5 they won't prove too challenging at this stage. Around level 8 or so is when the mages/battlemages/nightblades start to put a hurting on you with their spells.

As for the categories of dungeons, I think the theme was undead for castles, mages and atronachs for laboratories, animals for lairs, and I don't remember the rest offhand. It's easy enough to deduce the category of dungeon you're heading into, for example "Ruins of Bakersfield Manor" or "The Andynyak Laboratory". There's also one-word dungeon names like "Druigod" and such - I believe those fall under lairs. But keep in mind I may be wrong about some of this.

To add to what King Bear posted: You can also get an idea about the type of things you'll meet by reading the flavor text that pops up when you first arrive. Things like "spiderwebs cover the ground here" or "you smell orcs. Definitely orcs" and the like.

Do you mean cemeteries that are already marked on the world map or dungeons with "crypt" in the name? I don't know of any relation between dungeon naming and their size but i never checked it. It might be possible that the way a dungeon is named might also provide a clue to their size.
