low post/topics

Post » Wed Feb 10, 2010 10:38 am

I dont know is this means anything or not, but it seems reasonable to me to think about it. Other up and coming games forums have double if not triple the amount of topics/post that this game has. I know you are probably thinking "well those games were anounced before this one", well they werent. Firefall for example had over 100,000 post within almost 2 weeks, and they only had one video on the game and that was it. I just dont want this to be like savage 2..a great game that flies under the radar with hardly anyone playing it. I have tried to do my part and tell all my friends about it, but word of mouth doesnt work like it used to. Alot of my riends didnt even know about this game and they are gamers. I am just really looking foward to this game and want it to succeed very much.

people know about in, at least on ps3. MAG and Killzone community are both well aware of BRINK.

I don't normally visit forums much, especially for games that aren't even released, i just happen to have found an obsession this time around. As such, I don't have much experience to compare these forums with. But I would assume that as the release date gets closer, the amount of pvssyr will increase.

It could also have something to do with the fact that the original release date was spring 2010, and the game was pushed back 6 months twice. Its possible that the original wave of people got tired of waiting.

Well I haven't heard a single mention of Firefall, so...?

If its an MMO or an RPG, there will undoubtedly be more forum activity then Brink, since they can form enormous clans and meta-game before its release, planning strategies. With a strictly multiplayer game, however, there is inevitably less activity. Brink's been winning awards at E3 and Eurogamer; People know about it, don't worry.

there is the initial excitement after major advertisemants for the game, and then there are lulls when there is nothing new being announced for the game. brink is in the lull phase.

I can tell you for a fact that Brink is making waves among the Killzone community, specially since the beta came out and has so far been a true let down to many fans. If Brink comes out around April/May that will be just about perfect to capture a lot of that crowd. Most of those fans are after a game that is competitive and challenging, not a game that spoon-feeds you xp no matter how bad you are. KZ2 was that game, KZ3 is definately not that game, and Brink - from what I've seen - certainly looks like it could be it. I know I'm ready to jump ship and I've logged +1,500 hours on KZ2 (~ #300 on the global leaderboard), so you don't get bigger fan then that :)

Is that a bad thing? I've said this before, and I'm going to stick to it: I would rather have a small community than to have all those annoying... well, jerks.

I want a small community, but I want a guaranteed choice of more than 5 or so servers. Dystopia is great, but as a mod has virtually no players.

Hopefully not tired of the game just hanging around the forums.

The community in these forums is in fact not that great. But for some reason I think this is because rarely anyone regocnises BRINK as a game where you visit the forum. This might sound odd ... well ... it is.
Anyway, even though not many people populate this forum, there are quite many (as mentioned above: the Killzone-community for example) who are quite hyped about this game and will most likely check it out on release.

In the end it's mainly up to Splash Damage & Bethesda to do some proper advertisemant-job and release good trailers and info about BRINK, just a month before release.

I came to the same conclusion earlier, Brink just doesn't seem like a forum type game. Again, I'm going to say, it is a featured game in steam's action genre, and there hasn't even been a release date yet.

+ and you shouldn't forget this, the splashdamage forum has a brinksection aswell and is just as official.

oh, and this forum is indeed in a lull phase, we've been pretty hardpressed scaring those people away who keep asking the same questions in new topics

Splash damage has a Brink forum, and Bethesda has this brink forum. Might be causing a problem, both are official and splitting the crowd that is eagerly awaiting this game.

Also this game has been in development and pushed back several times, and there isn't much left to discuss that hasnt been done 3-4x.

(pure assumption) I haven't seen any leakage of beta information either, so I believe it is all internal testing with the lid sealed tightly shut. Not much new to discuss.

New people seem to come in waves, some people left or are not as active as before. A lot of older dedicated members left, or stopped posting because of the same questions, topics and discussions.

Yeah, Horse is gone from here, and Wraith and Nicto barely post anymore, just to name a few. Each of them had at least 2k posts.

Indeed. Back in the day I first came here, HORSE and Wraith were my 2 main providers of new/accurate info.

I'm happy that the Killzone community might get into Brink, yet it always surprises me when someone brings this up.

No kidding, I always thought the point of a sequel was to keep the old formula, inject a new story, and attempt to get all the same customers to buy it again.

Thats true, I suppose that KZ3 is a real let down from what I'm gathering.

I think I would only be more surprised if, for some reason unknown in this world, the CoD community came over to Brink.

I might just have a heart attack.

while doing other things, this sentence popped up in my mind and bugged me, 100,000 posts in less than 2weeks? okay, i can believe that, but, how many of those could be considered spam?
how many people said the same thing in other words?
how many people started talking about offtopic things?

or, to keep the numbers down, how many posts were informative or were discussing something out of those 100000 posts?

No, I'm not sure if I'd like the vast majority of the CoD community came over. It'd be a surprise, but a bad one. Like if your girlfriend surprised you with hokerr Butters on your birthday. Who the [censored] wants hokerr Butters?

That is an oddly specific example, my friend....

I honestly don't think that CoD players will continue to act like CoD players once they're in a game, so its a non-issue for me. I am of the opinion that people only use as much annoying tactics as the game allows. People camp, quickscope, or use OP weapons because it works. In the end, most players only care about winning. If winning requires teamwork, people will learn.

History provides specific examples for me to use...I didn't tell her what I actually thought, though.

I have no doubt their playstyle will change with a new game, but the people themselves don't. I don't know how many games I had where I just got fed up with the people on the other end of the mic and had to mute my tv. I just can't stand the stereotypical CoD player. I guess the whole "stereotypes are there for a reason" argument fits Call of Duty.

That is why i love the ability to mute individual players. I heard that in some of the more recent games, people will automatically start to be globally muted if they get muted by too many different players, which to me is awesome.
