Low res distant landscape

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 3:15 pm

So far everything looks gorgeous BUT I do have one nit to pick. I've noticed whenever we see http://i.imgur.com/TZJWIM5.jpg they look really blurry, like Skyrim from one of it's http://static-2.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/28406-4-1355660205.jpg angles but without the mountains to hide it. I honestly can't complain about much else but I expected Bethesda to have implemented a better shader or tessellation to hide that mess...there's time I suppose :bonk:

It looks good to me. You are focusing on the close object and when you do the objects in the distance will get blurry or maybe get a shimmer effect depending on the lighting situation. The issue is more with the lack of trees that seem to disappear after 100 meters or so.

Bethesda games tend to always suffer this... I kinda actually preferred the fog in Morrowind as opposed to letting us see terribly blurry land. Luckily on PC mods come to the rescue.

I agree to a certain extent, Skyrim quite effectively hid it's low poly scenery from time to time but I've noticed the same blurry landscape in the video footage.

The distant land isn't ideal.

I guess having LOD models for grass and scrub at distance is still too much of a rendering or memory drain to be practical on consoles and low/medium range PCs. But you'd have thought they could implement some texture/shader overlay to give some sort of illusion of vegetation that they can't have actual models for.

While I suspect they're firmly in bug-fixing only mode right now, perhaps they could have squeezed something in since they recorded those videos and screenshots. Hopefully.

Hope there will be a distant lands texture mod so the fugly of 3/NV sniper kill cams can stop.

i do appreciate the fact, that Bethesda is confident enought to show the game with it's flaws as is, unlike some other publishers.

i wager that high res LOD textures and ini tweaks for extended tree range will be among the first mods to be released for PC, just like it was for skyrim.

otherwise i agree, barren hils are ok in fallout, and the LOD only does look blurry when zoomed in this time. it's not going to be the most beautiful game, but it's going to look good. the rest will be fixed by modders for those of us with the rig to handle it.

also keep in mind, that it seem like we will get dynamic lighting and potentially cloud shadows on those LOD hills, so it may be necessary for consoles, to keep them a bit lower res, otherwise the lighting would svck to much FPS.

It says a lot about Bethesda, both as a publisher and as a games studio. I would much rather see an honest representation than something that was put together to oversell the game visually.

I wonder how this would affect the voiced protagonist!

it makes him say stuff like: "better [censored] some [censored] up" and "[censored]face", which ironically, will be censored here.

It would actually be quite funny if we downed a load of alcohol in game and the protagonist started to shpeek a bit funny, or got overly emotional for no reason.

Fair point, I plan to get rather wasted on release day and I doubt a low res landscape noise texture will spoil my fun much :D
