Lower performance after upgrade...?

Post » Wed Nov 18, 2015 9:42 pm

So, I'll start by saying I do not really know much about Computers in terms of the graphic, processors, and all that, so I just took the advice of the guy in the store where I got my computer upgraded.

I've had several bits and pieces changed, but what I'm finding is that Skyrim is actually has 'lower performance' than before the upgrade... I used to get 50-60fps outside, at least according to Elys' memory tool; now I'm getting 15-20 in the exact same location... I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what might be up, and how I might be able to fix it, because that seems like some kind of error... (at least based on the fact I was told these upgrades should make any current game play perfectly :/ )

OS : Windows 8.1 Pro

Processor : Intel Core i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz 3.20GHz

Installed Ram : 32GB

System Type : 64-bit OS, x64-based processor

Graphics : AMD Raedon R9 280X

(Is there anything else I need to post re-specs?)

So... Have I just been mislead by the store, or is there something actually likely to be wrong with my system?

Thanks for any help.

No, that's a very good system to play skyrim and other games with it.

However, if the guy told you to go for 32GB of memory, that's sort of rediculous, as you could just buy 16GB, and keep your remaining money for something else.

Even so, that should'n affect your performance negatively.

Do you have any mods and did you a proper Skyrim installation?

Do you have any programs that running on the background and taking tour PCs performance down?

As far as I know, there shouldn't be any other programs running in the background--they did a fresh install of Windows, so all I have installed right now is Steam, Skyrim, Office, Mod Organizer, and whatever software was required to get everything up and running.

Proper install of Skyrim.

I am using Mods, but they're the same Mods I had before the upgrade, with the same LO, and fps was great before :/ Since I'm using MO, I've also tried running it via the Vanilla Launcher (so bypassing all the Mods, as though they weren't installed), and it's still basically the same--there's maybe a ~10 fps difference. I'd backed up all my Mods (I'm running about 80 right now); do you think that could be the issue?

I know this sounds lame but I would try starting a new game, with no mods, no tweaks, just pure vanilla. I'd rush through the Tutorial with sound turned down, and then make my way out into the world, just to see if this issue is still there. You could also try uninstalling your mods, and using an early save of your current game (which probably had less mods installed, right?)

Lame, but that's what I would try.

jasper1979 and funnybunny seem more on the right track than I am, it has to be something unrelated to the game itself. Something they did. Maybe something incredibly simple, too. I would still try my test though, just to be sure.

Hey everyone, thanks for the help/replies :)

1)

Everything except the OS and Graphic Card was upgraded. They did a total re-install of the OS because I got an SSD fitted (forgot to mention that, sorry); Graphic Card I've had for a while.

2)

I did a total re-install of Skyrim, no Mods, no CK; updated my drivers (yep, they weren't the latest--but wouldn't I notice more issues from that?)--got my 60-fps back; with my Mods, it's dropping to a steady 45-ish outside, and low 50s inside. I can live with that, but if you guys have any suggestions/ideas how to boost it a bit higher, I'd be happy to hear :D

Thanks for all your help :D

Obviously your re-installation got your Skyrim working again, as it should be.

Nice, you have fixed your problem. :goodjob:

SO they upgraded the MOtherboard, CPU and RAM? Also the SSD you mentioned? WHat did you have previously?
