Lucid Dreaming

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 4:33 am

I have recently began training myself to lucid dream which is the act of controlling your own dreams and living them out as if you were awake. So far I have been unsuccessful, my first attempt I had a really weird nightmare where I was locked in a house with a bunch of people and we were going to sleep. Well the only places left to sleep was in two very creepy places. The second attempt I had a really weird dream which I cannot recall right now. Anyway enough about my stupid dreams. Do any of you know how to lucid dream? I have been trying to use theta binaural tones but it does not seem to work. I've tried looking at my hand and saying "Is this a dream?" at regular intervals nothing is working for me. Anyway before you accuse me of wanting to do this to live out erotic fantasies that is not why I want to this. The real reason I want to do this is to play Skyrim in my dreams lol, I really can't wait for that game to come out so I am resorting to putting myself in a trance.

Well,I haven't gone to the part of lucidity, but I do know when I dream that I dream and I can change events on the fly if I want to. Especially when it's a nightmare, I tell myself, "No, I don't want this, let's turn this into a funny event". But usually what happens is that the dream ends. Anyway, I think the best time is a few hours, minutes before you wake up, because you're about to... wake up, hehe. Meaning, you're much more aware of what's going on, and these are the dreams we mostly remember.

I never had the pleasure of that happening to me. I always have to just sit back and watch what is going on. Even the few times I did realize I was dreaming I still could not change anything. I have had dreams before where I was consious and was able to control myself but I was limited to only controlling myself and I couldn't do anything a average human couldn't. I've read that some people can control everything which is what I aim to do. I really want to lucid dream about playing Skyrim and I also really want to lucid dream myself into the dragon age origins party camp so I can slap Alistair for being a idiot. Once I achieve these things I will explore other options with my dreaming, maybe I will fly over the world or go super saiyan and fire a kamehameha wave. LOL child hood fantasies, didn't think I would ever get a chance to live some of those out.

I think I have had one truly lucid dream where I knew it was a dream and I knew I was in control. It was a long time ago but one thing I remember cleary is I placed myself in the most beautiful place I could imagine. I woke up and the mental images I had stayed for days. Ive never had a dream like that since.

I've done it once or twice, but not intentionally, it just sorta happened. I was walking around then suddenly boom, I realized it was a dream. To verify I was really dreaming I tried floating, when it worked I began flying around. It was lovely!

One night I was watching this film on dreams. People in it were talking about how a person can go through multiple dreams during sleep. So, I decided, and said to myself, that I was going to wake up randomly in the middle of the night to see if I had different dreams/to have an awake thought of these dreams. Wouldnt you know, that same night I woke up several times in the middle of dreams, many different dreams. What a very awesome experience. I have since not been able to do it again. Oh, and I woke up multiple times by myself, no alarm clock or someone waking me.

Skyrim can't compare to Dream Skyrim. You'll just be setting yourself up for disappointment.

That said, I've never had a lucid dream in my life, so I can't help with that.

I haven't been lucid dreaming as much lately, but I still have one every week or two weeks. It's a great feeling, but when I was having multiple lucid dreams every week it lost it's charm and sleep wound up not very refreshing.

I also have strange semi-lucid dreams, where I know I'm dreaming and try to control things but another part of my brain snaps everything back into place. I have to concentrate really hard to change things, sometimes having to attempt it multiple times, and I'm not always successful and have to give up. I don't even know if there's a term for that type of dream.

EDIT: What's really strange is that before I hit this period of constant lucid dreaming, I fell to my death in a dream. I actually hit the ground and died, and it's said that that's never supposed to happen in a dream; you're always supposed to wake up just before. Before that death dream I did have the occasional lucid dream, and it was a psych professor of mine who told me what they were back in 1994 after I asked him what might be happening. I'd never heard of the phenomenon before that, and I only had a few of them since until that strange death dream a few years ago.

Lucid dreaming can(and normally will) leave you pretty tired after a while, and stressed, seeing how(at least for me) it wakes you up throughout the night.

The Way I did it was to focus on each of my body parts until I felt a bit numb all over, then counted back from 1000 until i gradually slipped into dreaming. Don't try this when you feel really tired, as that makes the gradual slip into your dreams much more difficult, seeing as how your body just wants to pass out and recharge. also, try to train yourself to constantly check your watch/cell phone clock, as normally in dreams the numbers will change, or be somthing unreadable.

You wind up more than tired if the majority of your dreams are lucid. Your conscious awake time is affected, and you feel almost like you're losing your grip on reality. You're not necessarily paranoid, but you have trouble with short term memory, have trouble remembering if a recent past event was real or a dream or neither, and have trouble concentrating. You wind up feeling almost like you're outside your body observing yourself as you go through your day, which is not unlike the feeling you have when you're lucid dreaming. Your conscious awake time winds up feeling like you're not quite awake and done dreaming, and you can't snap out of it.

That's what happened to me anyway.

No, it's not. Lucid dream is a dream in which you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming. That pretty much puts you in control of everything that's going on in the dream, i.e. anything you want to happen you can make happen (sort of like in Inception), which is nothing like when you are awake.

I've learned how to have lucid dreams. Not always, but occasionally. I do have some advice; use your long-term memory, it can help distinguish if something doesn't add up. Otherwise, if something feels strange, pinch yourself. I can tell you from experience that if you're dreaming, you won't feel physical pain from it.

Edit: A lot of times dreams will feel like being awake, you may have to learn to not be fooled, or just get into the habit of pinching yourself when something odd happens. Also, I find it a lot harder to realize I'm dreaming when I have one of those dreams where my emotions are running rampant.

Holy crap, I never thought of that! Wait, something is definitely fishy about that. Do humans even have this... "long-term" memory? You're full of crap. Pics or it didn't happen.

I think the "you die in your sleep, you die for real" thing is an urban legend. I died a few times in my dreams, even saw my "gardian angel" once. It's more a symbole of change then death.

Come to think of it, it's been a while (as in years) since I flew in my dreams.. wo.

I have never had one to my knowledge. In my dreams if I ever realize it is a dream, I wake up right afterwards.
