Luck essential for cowboy build

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 4:12 am

So I am new to fallout and I was thinking of a charecter to try and I decided to be a cowboy. I would focus on pistols and V.A.T.S and to compliment this take agility and perception for lots of action points to fill my enemies with bullets. I have so far.

S: 1

P: 9

E: 1

C: 1

I: 1

A:9

L: 6

I was told before that I should focus on "the second half of the luck tree". Do they mean better critical a or grim reapers sprint or luck of the Irish? Also is that necessary for the build or not.

All replies are appreciated. ??

For a gunslinger it's Perception,Agilitiy and luck. Luck is for the extra damage with criticals, because pistols are a bit inferior in damage compared to non automatic rifles

Thanks, which luck perks should I take and how do I "bank" criticals (like what button, how long can I keep it)?

There is a bar in vats that goes up after every shot. That is your crit bar. When full press "square"(ps4). Luck has the ability to have multiple bars as signified by stars.

These are saved until you use them. They have 100% accuracy with ussually double damage I believe. Of course with perks you can make crits about 5 times

I was considering working on a build that implemented Gun Fu for the automatic crit in conjunction with Kelog's Pistol (which restores AP on crit) to essentially receive permanent AP as long as you have enough targets and then can resort to using Critical Banker as a backup to Gun Fu to control your usage of criticals to keep feeding AP using Kelog's pistol.

i would drop some points in perception and agility here so your not dumping 4 stats. take some in either int or charisma so you have some flexibility elsewhere.

Yes, you should use only +Luck Armor/clothes. You should reach 20 Luck or more. You could also use -% AP Cost but with Pistols you already have enough shots, especially when you get the Legendary Affixes with -25% and -40% AP Cost.

You don't need Luck when using Pistols. It's just that most Luck builds choose to use Pistols for their lower AP costs. If you aren't interested in investing in Luck, you don't need to.

As for the important Luck perks, there are 4:

Four Leaf Clover - every hit in VATS has a chance to refill your Crit meter. Nice for reducing downtime between crits, but a Lucky Legendary weapon does much the same thing. A Lucky weapon doesn't render this perk useless, but you may not be interested in investing in this perk if you have one.

Critical Banker - allows you to bank up to 4 extra crits for use against tougher targets. Nothing can render this perk useless, so it's highly recommended for a Crit build.

Better Criticals - increased damage on a crit. Since Pistols don't usually hit as hard, this can ensure easy kills, especially when stacked with other sources of Crit Damage.

Grim Reaper's Sprint - each kill in VATS has a chance to refill your AP. Great for extended fights; however, it's rendered useless by a Relentless weapon.

As for Legendary prefixes, two of the best are Relentless and Lucky. Relentless weapons don't hit as hard, but the ability to get all AP back on a Crit speeds things up considerably. The Lucky weapon, on the other hand, is slower (since you have to wait for your AP to regenerate after each VATS sequence), but it hits significantly harder. If I had to choose one prefix to recommend, I would suggest the Relentless weapon. Lucky is great for single tougher targets, but a lot of fights are against groups; for those, the speed of the Relentless prefix will be more useful.

Definitely consider Gun Fu. It's a great perk not only for it's massive damage output but because it adds even more of a tactical side to the game as well. You really do feel like some kind of gun ninja in vats with it.

Also because of small guns low AP usage it works better with pistols than any other weapon.

Gun Fu and Ricochet are great fun in a big fire fight especially if you are playing a cowboy, It really is like a gun fight scene from a wild west movie.
