Lunch-Boxes - Feeling Ripped-Off

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 12:35 pm

The first thing when you pay something to gamble and there is no way you can control the outcome, TRY not to have expectation at all. I did bought the 40 lunchbox twice and the first batch was just Jericho, A rocket launcher and a laser rifle. The rest was pretty much common items that you can find in the wasteland and i am fine with the loot i got from the first batch lunchbox. The second batch of 40 lunchbox that i open and i got Dr.Li, Elder Lyons, 2 rocket launcher, Accelerated Gauss Rifle, 2 Gatling Laser, 2 Railway Rifle, 12 Rare Dwellers and more rare weapons(wazer wifle, tuned plasma gun,Laser rifle). It was great and.. yeah, if you're lucky then good for you. If not, just don't be disappointed because thats what you get for when you gamble.

well for Bethesda and newb/noob players, the 500 caps is consider a rare thing.

@ michelrpg:

I think we are getting somewhere...

I don′t want to sound like a never stopping whining little girl, but i started this thread, and i find it interesting to discuss this topic with you fellow overseers a little further.

I never lost a night of sleep over the lost 20bucks, and when you look closer, i don′t complain about the money.

I think Bethesda tinkered with the odds of the lunchboxes after the 2nd update.

And that is the thing that riles me.

Like Bince said, i also have the Feeling the 500caps-card is much more common now. In fact, so common, that you can′t call it a "rare" anymore.

You′re right when you say i don′t need anything other than Mr. Handys and heavy weapons.

My dwellers are working really hard to keep their vault running, and i want to support them as much as i can.

The thing is, they are working so hard to complete assignments, and in the end, all to often the only thing i can give them are caps.

More caps to say, because they are already flooding their vault with them.

999.999 anyone?

Bethesda sends us Deathclaws and Molerats, and i can′t give my little dwellers heavy weapons to defend themselves properly.

That sounds a little bit unfair.

Maybe you′re right, maybe with enough patience, they could get all the "rare" and "legendary" stuff.

But how much patience should i have? I already am playing this game since day one, and with every other lunchbox filled with these crappy 500caps?

Well, i don′t expect in every box a legendary item, but as it is now, that′s frustrating. Where is the motivation to keep going?

Like i said, i really like this game. It′s full of small details, and every other day i read something here that sounds like an idea.

I looked around, and i read some really good ideas how this little game could be improved.

Like Bince. He′s right, Bethesda should give us something to buy with the caps.

Even you say that there should be a greater diversity. So come on, what would you change if you could?

It sounds that you have some ideas.

And to WarIZ: Congratulations :twirl:

I bought 1 pack and 2 Mr handys just for fun. In early stage of the game everything from lunch box is very good  Then after 1 day of playing I realized something is wrong. Conclusion - why should I buy lunch boxes when this game is account free? I can lost 10, 20, 30 or more boxes on one raid or disaster or even fail of my phone (crash of the game, low battery etc.). It's pointless for now. You can start new vault of course but those boxes you bought in previous vault are gone forever. Perfect business plan from Bethesda. You lost some - you buy more. Brin_Londo you are very great example how this business works - buy more boxes - it WILL be better loot for SURE

I can buy tons of boxes but not now. Most games have their 'bonuses' for gold (crystals, XYZmoney) but their are in game forever. Maybe i should buy MORE?

Additional info.

I opened 10 lunch boxes in early game stage and this is what i got:

Resources

Water x50 2

Power x50 2

Food x50 2

Stimpak 2

Radaway 3

Caps x100 6

Caps x500 6

Weapons

10mm Pistol 1

Enhanced .32 Pistol 1

Enhanced Scoped .44 1

Rusty Hunting Rifle 2

Hunting Rifle 1

Enhanced Hunting Rifle 1

Legendary items

Laser Musket 1

Rusty Alien Blaster 1

X-01 MK IV Power Armor 1

X-01 Mk VI Power Armor 1

Armors

Nightwear 1

Initiate Robe 1

Armored Vault Suit 1

Oficer Uniform 1

Blue Dwellers

Mildred Newton 1

Doris Clarke 1

Todd Ward 1

I don't see any total rip off. Paid about 9.60 $ for those 10 boxes. Seems like perfect start for a new game.

Heh... :D

Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn...

By now, i know that, too.

As i said in one of my previous posts, i usually don′t play this free games. I′′m more into the big ones on the PS4 (previously XBox360).

But hey, it′s Fallout!

So i made an exception. And as long as they do not get rid of this "rare" 500caps, i′m not buying anymore.

But.. let me have a look into the future:

I see... I seee... I seeeee... A pack of guarantied weapons for only 3.99 !!!

I need something to spend caps on now i'm all maxed out at 999,999. How about if we can use caps to buy lunchboxes at vastly inflated prices using caps? Like 200,000 per lunchbox? That way at least we have that option?

Heh, i responded to fast to your post, i did not read that additional info...

Yeah, looks good. Your odds where even better than mine :D But as you said by yourself, at the start of the game everything is helpful.

You will come to a point in the game, where caps, resources and even gear is given to you plenty by your dwellers.

At this point, your vault is built as you want it, and you do not know what to do with the caps.

Then you do this little jobs given to you by FOS, and you get... more caps.

When you have, say, 250.000caps and you open a box, and then you receive 500 more caps, you will think of me... :twirl:

That brings me to:

@ cyber69

Yeah, sounds great. It is better than have nothing to spend to.

Maybe i should open another thread where we can discuss what to do with so many caps...

Come on Mr Bethesda, get rid of the 500 caps in the lunchboxes now! Make the cap reward 500 anyway instead of a paltry 100.

My money is waiting until this change is made.

Mr. Bethesda is really named Todd Howard, and he has a special place in my vault...

:D

When you "moderate" that, dear other overseers, i can live with that...

No harm done, right?

@Brin_Londo

I think boxes are for so called 'fast&happy start'. Most games offer such popular starter kit or whatever you call it. I don't need that much help if you have 500k caps and 150 ppl in your vault (which I don't have).

I left my first vault just for five minutes and go to... well for a short break  After I back again to the game the fire spreaded across all rooms. With the 'help' of raiders after 5 minutes my vault was about 75% lives less than before.

At this point I was wondering - 'maybe I should buy some more packs to recover from this madness?'. Well I didn't buy  which cost me about 4 hours to recover.

Saved the money but lost the time but some ppl say that 'time is a money' so anyway, I lost money  Conclusion may be obvious but I wish to say it: you NEED boxes in early game, you need them very MUCH. On mid stage or later, it's something you may consider as optional slot machine for fun  I understand your frustration about x500 x100 caps when you have 500k of them but there are also legendaries you may not have it. Just pure luck you win them or no. Boxes are optional and you have them in game from daily missions. In current state they are for new, fresh start players not for mid/pro IMHO. Maybe it can change in the future cause game is rather young.

Notice that: items are from piece of crap to super extra so this is fair. I don't have any doubts I can loot crap much more then legendary. After many years of money spending to dozens of different games, considering price and offer in those boxes I can tell you this - it's very fair. Only one thing stops me from buy those boxes again and again - fact I can lost everything in few minutes which I cannot accept.

I hear you... Fact is, i spoke to some people who are doing this mini-games much more than i do. And even they lost some money, sometimes much more than my 20bucks.

I′m not bitter in the end, just learned a little bit more about our world. That′s okay by now.

That′s the reason i play further... I WANT to see the enjoyment, and i am entertained by this game.

Sorry for the loss in your vault...

So thank you all for your Input, see ya in Disneyland

I dunno,

Oh one hand I want to sort of agree with you on the other you get boxes for free pretty easily and have other avenues of getting everything else. For a F2P game this is literally the only one where I felt I should spend some money to support decent devs. Every other mobile F2P game literally makes it sooo painful unless you do buy and when you see a $100 option you know they are just taking advantage of stupid people (and push the need to buy crap or play 24/7).

You are supposed to be ripped by off by the lunch boxes. The whole point is to not give you what you want so you keep buying them. This is the business model for free to play games. These games are designed to break your patience so you end up spending real money to buy something you can't wait a few days for.

I had a thought about buying the 40pk of lunchboxes, but after playing the game for a few weeks and being HUGELY disappointed about what I've gotten from lunchboxes, I decided that I am not paying money for the risk of getting more rubbish lunchboxes. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Fallout fan, have been since Fallout 1, and have played every game and dlc since, and will of course play Fallout 4 as much as I can, and I love Fallout Shelter... but I certainly won't be spending money on lunchboxes. :)

But you have to admit... for a free game that doesn't force you to like it on facebook, get your friends to play it, or pay to play it, it's the best I've seen.

So what is stopping you from buying the 40 pack of lunchboxes and then using them all and then putting a claim into Apple for a refund because you changed your mind?

I think the perception to the role of the lunchboxes is way off target. I didn't spend a penny on this game because I immediately realized that one of the few ultimate goals are to gather all weapons, armor and dwellers. By buying lunchboxes I'd be paying Bethesda to beat the game for me. Secondly, I also noticed that lunchboxes contain items that help when in a pinch. Resources, caps, stims, et al... these are all in the lunchboxes as well and opening them all at the same time would literally waste a good lunchbox. So I held them for when deathclaws attacked so I could get back on my feet immediately. I think that is the proper use of them, and it's got a chance to get a rare/legendary item as well. Bethesda never told anyone to gamble, yet we automatically assume that is what they wanted with the lunchboxes.

Personally, before removing the game because of severe disappointment, I could get about 3-5 lunchboxes per day just by completing objectives so I don't think purchasing them is necessary at all. Just my few thoughts.
